How much do electrophysiology rn jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for electrophysiology rn in the United States is $124.86, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $91.59 and $167.31 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Electrophysiology RNs?

Electrophysiology RNs are registered nurses who specialize in assisting with electrophysiology procedures, which diagnose and treat heart rhythm disorders. They work closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals in specialized labs, where they monitor patients, administer medications, and manage equipment during procedures such as ablations and pacemaker insertions. Their role also includes educating patients and families about electrophysiology treatments and post-procedure care. Electrophysiology RNs require a strong background in cardiac care and specialized training in electrophysiology.

What does an RN do in an electrophysiology lab?

An RN in an electrophysiology lab assists with patient preparation, monitors vital signs during procedures, and supports electrophysiologists in performing cardiac arrhythmia studies and ablation procedures. They also operate specialized equipment, ensure patient safety, and may assist with data collection and documentation.

What are the top 5 highest paid nurses?

In general, specialized nursing roles such as Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, Critical Care Nurses, and Electrophysiology RNs tend to have the highest salaries. Electrophysiology RNs, who assist in cardiac procedures and require advanced skills and certifications, typically earn higher wages compared to general nursing roles. Salaries vary by experience, location, and employer, but these specialized positions are among the top-paying nursing roles.

What are some of the unique challenges an Electrophysiology RN may encounter in the cardiac lab environment?

Electrophysiology RNs often work in fast-paced cardiac labs where they must respond quickly to changes in patient status during complex procedures like ablations and device implantations. A unique challenge is managing patients who may experience arrhythmias or complications under conscious sedation, requiring rapid assessment and intervention skills. Additionally, Electrophysiology RNs collaborate closely with physicians, technologists, and anesthesiology teams, so strong communication and teamwork are essential. Staying current with evolving technologies and protocols is also vital for success in this specialized field.

How to make an extra $2000 a month as a nurse?

An electrophysiology RN can increase income by working overtime, taking on per diem shifts, or specializing further to qualify for higher-paying roles. Developing advanced skills, certifications, or working in high-demand environments can also lead to higher pay. Combining multiple shifts or roles can help reach the extra $2000 monthly target.

What is the difference between Electrophysiology Rn vs Cardiac Catheterization Nurse?

AspectElectrophysiology RnCardiac Catheterization Nurse
CredentialsRegistered Nurse (RN), EP certification preferredRegistered Nurse (RN), Cath Lab certification often preferred
Work EnvironmentElectrophysiology labs, hospitals, specialized clinicsCardiac catheterization labs, hospitals, outpatient centers
Industry UsageElectrophysiology procedures, arrhythmia managementCardiac diagnostics, angiography, stent placements

While both roles require RN licensure and work in cardiac settings, Electrophysiology Rns focus on arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment, whereas Cardiac Catheterization Nurses assist with diagnostic and interventional procedures like angiograms and stent placements. The roles overlap in the cardiac care environment but differ in specific procedures and certifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrophysiology RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrophysiology RN, you need a solid background in cardiac nursing, critical care, and electrophysiology procedures, typically with a BSN degree and active RN licensure. Competence with cardiac monitoring systems, EP lab equipment, and certifications like ACLS and BLS are crucial. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are vital soft skills in this role. These skills ensure patient safety, accurate procedure support, and seamless collaboration in high-acuity cardiac care environments.

Can a nurse be an electrophysiologist?

An electrophysiologist is a specialized cardiologist who diagnoses and treats arrhythmias, typically requiring medical school, residency, and fellowship training. Registered nurses, including electrophysiology nurses, assist in procedures and patient care but do not perform electrophysiology procedures or make diagnoses. Transitioning from nursing to electrophysiology as a physician involves extensive additional education and training.
