How much do electronics soldering jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 3, 2026, the average yearly pay for electronics soldering in Arizona is $56,699.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42,900.00 and $65,200.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is electronics soldering?

Electronics soldering is the process of joining electrical components together by melting a metal alloy called solder, which creates a strong electrical and mechanical bond between the parts. It is commonly used to connect wires, chips, and other components to printed circuit boards (PCBs) in electronic devices. Soldering requires precision, steady hands, and an understanding of how heat and materials interact to ensure reliable and safe connections. Proper soldering helps prevent circuit failures and is essential in manufacturing and repairing electronic equipment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in electronics soldering?

To thrive in Electronics Soldering, you need excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of electronics and circuit diagrams, often supported by vocational training or certification such as IPC-A-610. Familiarity with soldering irons, rework stations, multimeters, and inspection tools is typically required. Patience, steady hand-eye coordination, and the ability to follow precise instructions are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure reliable, high-quality assembly and repair of electronic components, which is critical for product safety and performance.

What are some common challenges electronics soldering professionals face when working on complex circuit boards?

Electronics Soldering professionals often encounter challenges such as working with extremely small components, ensuring precise placement to avoid solder bridges, and maintaining high-quality joints for reliable performance. Additionally, working with sensitive or multi-layered PCBs requires careful temperature control and attention to detail to prevent damage. Collaboration with engineers and quality control teams is also essential to ensure that all assemblies meet strict industry standards and function as intended.

What is the difference between Electronics Soldering vs Electronics Assembly?

AspectElectronics SolderingElectronics Assembly
Primary FocusJoining electronic components through solderingAssembling entire electronic devices or systems
Skills RequiredPrecise soldering techniques, component handlingComponent placement, wiring, soldering, troubleshooting
Work EnvironmentManufacturing lines, repair shopsProduction facilities, testing labs
CertificationsElectronics soldering certifications, IPC standardsElectronics assembly certifications, IPC standards

Electronics Soldering primarily involves the precise process of joining electronic components with solder, often as a specialized task within electronics assembly. Electronics Assembly encompasses the broader process of constructing entire electronic products, including component placement, wiring, and testing. While both roles require similar certifications and work environments, soldering is a focused skill within the larger assembly process.
