What does an electronics production coordinator do?

An Electronics Production Coordinator oversees the scheduling, planning, and coordination of activities involved in the manufacturing of electronic products. They are responsible for ensuring that production deadlines are met, materials and components are available, and quality standards are maintained throughout the process. This role often involves communicating between different departments such as engineering, procurement, and assembly to keep production running smoothly. They may also help resolve issues that could cause delays and track the progress of ongoing projects.

How does an electronics production coordinator typically collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams during the manufacturing process?

Electronics Production Coordinators play a central role in facilitating communication and workflow between engineering, production, and quality assurance teams. They work closely with engineers to interpret technical drawings, coordinate changes, and ensure that production schedules align with design specifications. Collaboration with quality assurance staff is crucial to monitor product standards, address any defects promptly, and implement corrective actions. This coordination helps maintain production efficiency and product quality, making strong teamwork and communication skills essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electronics production coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electronics Production Coordinator, you need a solid understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, inventory management, and production scheduling, often supported by a relevant technical degree or experience. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, production tracking software, and quality control standards is typically required. Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Production Controller is responsible for end-to-end control of production orders from release to goods receipt, ensuring accurate SAP transactions, Bill of Material (BOM) integrity, and efficient interdepartmental flow (planning, procurement, production, quality, maintenance, and logistics). This role balances schedule adherence, material availability, capacity utilization, and compliance to achieve OTIF (On-Time, In-Full) delivery and cost targets.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

SAP & Master Data Control

· Convert and stage production/process orders in SAP (PP/MM), ensuring accurate confirmations, backflushing, and variances are recorded.

· Validate BOMs and routings (work centers, standard times, scrap factors) prior to order release, initiate corrections via master data governance.

· Monitor MRP signals and exception messages; align with planning on reschedules, expedites, and shortages.

· Reconcile order settlement variances (material, labor, overhead) and collaborate with finance on root-cause and corrective actions.

· Maintain strict transactional discipline for goods issues, goods receipts, and WIP.

Production Order Management (End-to-End)

· Sequence and dispatch orders by line/cell according to frozen schedule, ATP, and capacity constraints.

· Coordinate across departments (Purchasing, Warehouse, Production Supervisors, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance) to resolve blockers (shortages, NC material, equipment downtime).

· Track and drive schedule adherence, takt attainment, and line changeovers per plan.

· Manage hold, rework, and deviation orders with proper documentation and traceability.

BOM Verification & Change Control

· Perform pre-release BOM audits (components, alternates, substitutions), validate effectivity dates and ECO/ECN incorporation.

· Ensure revision control is consistent across BOMs, routings, and documentation, partner with Engineering on change implementation.

· Lead periodic cycle checks of high-value or critical BOMs; investigate BOM yield losses and scrap trends.

Materials & Inventory Coordination

· Confirm material availability (MRP stock, open POs, transfer orders) before order release; prevent partial kits unless approved.

· Drive kitting completeness and discrepancy resolution; maintain accuracy for backflushing and batch/lot tracking.

· Support cycle counts and root-cause analysis for inventory adjustments.

Quality & Compliance

· Ensure production orders carry correct inspection plans, sampling, and quality inspection points.

· Manage and enable the upstream query process to maintain timely closure.

· Enforce documentation standards: batch records, travelers, labels, and traceability/serialization where applicable.

· Support internal/external audits and maintain compliance with regulatory entities.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

· Publish daily/weekly KPIs: OTIF, schedule adherence, WIP, yield, scrap, rework hours, labor efficiency, lead time.

· Lead or support kaizen and A3 problem solving to eliminate delays, reduce WIP, and improve right-first time.

· Standardized work and visual controls for order flow, kitting, and deviation management

NATURE & SCOPE

This position will report to the Planning and Logistics Manager. Will interact with all members of the Supply Chain team providing support, expertise and analysis as required. May participate on cross function and regional teams.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

· Ownership & Rigor: Strong attention to SAP accuracy and master data integrity.

· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective communication across production, quality, engineering, procurement, and logistics.

· Problem Solving: Data-driven, capable of root-cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone) and corrective action follow-through.

· Prioritization: Able to manage competing demands and escalate intelligently.

· Process Discipline: Committed to standardized work, compliance, and continuous improvement.

COMPETENCIES

Required

· Experience: 3–5 years in manufacturing planning/control or shop floor scheduling; high proficiency with SAP PP/MM (or equivalent ERP).

· Technical:

o Hands-on with production orders, BOMs, routings, work centers, MRP, and inventory transactions.

o Understanding of capacity planning, takt time, standard work, and OEE basics.

o Familiarity with quality systems and documentation control.

· Tools: Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups), basic data analysis; exposure to Power BI or similar is a plus.

Preferred

· Education: Bachelor’s in supply chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.

· Experience in automotive / aerospace / medical device / chemicals / electronics manufacturing.

· Knowledge of APS tools and finite scheduling, kanban/pull systems, S&OP.
