Caterpillar Inc. seeks Electronic Component Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Develop, improve, and troubleshoot Electronic/Electrical Hardware used in engine and machine Systems. Develop product requirements, analysis and simulation, electronic component Selection, Schematic, Layout Development, and platform verification and validation. Some or all of these activities may be performed in partnership with a supplier including the manufacturing plan and process development. Work on sustainment of electrical and electronic parts and systems which requires performance of complex analysis work, identification and resolution of design problems. Focus on technical delivery. Decisions may affect project teams and delivery of projects. Develop platforms effectively, work closely with engine and machine system/subsystem team members to understand application requirements and performance needs. Includes embedded software as a key delivery, so coordination of this activity with the appropriate teams is required. Knowledge of analog and digital hardware design and product applications is necessary to develop robust solutions and assess the application suitability as well as a thorough understanding of the mechanical and environmental requirements for the application. Work on new development, current production hardware, maintain and support through the platform lifecycle including obsolescence management. Solve complex technical problems with strong consideration of business context, including cost-efficiency and total cost of ownership. Utilize experience in product management, and balance technical feasibility with business value delivery. Focus on quality through simulation, analysis, verification, and validation testing at the component level, subsystem, and system level. Work on modern troubleshooting and analysis skills are needed to resolve complex development and field issues and to improve overall performance and cost. Bear significant responsibility for completion of projects with major focus on delivery. Provide technical leadership and potentially train new staff members. Keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs and continuously learn through self/internet study. REQS: This position requires a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of experience in Electrical or Electronic Component/Systems Design or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Technical Design and Problem-Solving Methodology; (2) System Integration & Troubleshooting with Root cause analysis (RCA), 7-step problem-solving, FMEA); (3) Electronic Product Verification & Validation (V&V) testing including thermal chamber, vibration testing focused on Full-lifecycle V&V at board, subsystem, and system levels; (4) Electronic Product development such as CAN based displays controller, LCD displays Analog Gauges, and Sensors; (5) LTspice, PSpice, Matlab/Simulink (for circuit simulation); (6) Power BI for Data Analysis and Business case building; (7) Stage-Gate Product development process; (8) Sustaining Engineering & Lifecycle/Obsolescence Management with quality Tools such as Six Sigma (DMAIC), and Control Plans; (9) DFM/DFT Principles including design reviews with manufacturing, BOM and change management (using SAP), and alternate part sourcing such as Supplier management - PPAP, APQP, supplier deviation & requalification; and (10) Product management emphasizing technical feasibility with business value. Summary Pay Range:
$129,875.00 - $146,290.00
