Role Description

The Associate Attorney will work on-site in San Diego County, CA in a full-time capacity, supporting the firm’s integrated legal, tax, accounting, and consulting services. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing contracts and other transactional documents, and assisting with tax controversy work included the CDTFA, EDD, IRS and FTB. The role involves providing clear legal advice to the partner, supporting negotiations, and collaborating with tax and accounting professionals to ensure aligned strategies. The Associate Attorney will also help prepare memoranda, client communications, and internal briefing documents, and may participate in client meetings to explain legal implications of business and tax strategies. Projects include trust and entity creation, M&A due diligence, contract creation and review, Prop 65 defense, trust and estate administration, and assistance with tax court cases.

Qualifications

  • Desire to learn.
  • Proficiency in legal Research, including use of electronic research tools and preparation of clear, well-organized research summaries.
  • Negotiation skills for assisting in contract discussions, dispute resolution, and client advocacy.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in California (or eligibility and intent to obtain admission).
  • Demonstrated interest in business law, tax, or corporate governance; experience in a multidisciplinary or client-facing environment is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with legal, tax, and accounting teams.
