What is electronic ankle monitoring?

Electronic ankle monitoring is a method used by law enforcement and courts to track the location and movements of individuals, typically as part of pretrial release, probation, or parole. It involves fitting a person with a secure, tamper-resistant device worn around the ankle, which transmits real-time location data to authorities. These devices help ensure compliance with court-ordered restrictions, such as curfews or exclusion zones, and offer an alternative to incarceration. Electronic monitoring can be used for various offenses and is intended to balance public safety with the individual's freedom.

Effective communication with clients, regular training on device technology, and strong collaboration with law enforcement and case managers are essential strategies to address these issues. Staying organized and up to date with policy changes also helps maintain program integrity and ensures participant accountability.
