Job description

Install and maintain all the electrical systems of the Hospital in an efficient and professional manner. Maintains and repairs electrical systems and equipment including such items as switches, panel boxes, controls fixtures, motors and associated electrical equipment. Sizes and places electrical equipment into wire ways terminating with proper splices and connections. Inspects and tests electrical systems for defects.

Job Responsibility

  • * Help to maintain and repair all electrical and electronic installations including high voltage services, panel boards, distribution systems, transformers, relays, switches, cable and conduit.
  • * Utilizes knowledge of NYC Electrical Code requirements to help keep necessary records of tests performed as per code requirements.
  • * Carry out work order assignments, complete preventive maintenance work sheets Or perform other duties as assigned, direct helpers and/or mechanics and periodically check their work to insure safety standards.
  • * Installs and maintains new branch circuits or services, conduits and flexible cables including wire, rigid pipe, and boxes, BX and Greenfield, under supervision.
  • * Installs and maintains new panel boards including up to date directories, circuit breaker and fuse replacement, etc.Maintains all circuit directories in accurate conformity with installations.
  • * Tests or "ring-out" voltage and low voltage wiring systems and troubleshoots electrical installations.
  • * Reads, understands, interprets and works from simple wiring diagrams of equipment, control system and blueprints of electrical installations.
  • * Helps to install and maintain signal systems such as low voltage nurse call systems, paging systems, etc by following wiring diagrams and manuals.Installs and maintains lighting fixtures, ballasts, lamps, etc.
  • * Helps to perform regular tests of equipment such as emergency generators, ground detectors, etc.Helps to maintain log book or forms for all tests of generators.
  • * Repairs and maintains electrical and electronic plant equipment including solenoid valves, motors, electric beds and pumps.
  • * Uses electrical meters and tools to prepare occasional reports if required by the Engineering office.Reports problems to the Lead Electrician or Assistant Utilities Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor and works under direct supervision.
  • * Performs miscellaneous items of associated work including general clean-ups, painting of equipment and areas, moving equipment, etc.
  • * Periodically orders materials, as required, for work through proper channels.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy material and equipment weighing up to approximately 100 lbs
  • Must have acceptably corrected visual acuity.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in the electrical field with experience maintaining or installing electrical services, required.
  • NYC Electricians license, preferred.
  • Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
