What Are Advancement Opportunities for Electrician Assistants?
If you are an electrician assistant, career advancement includes becoming a journeyman electrician. To become a journeyman electrician, you need to enroll in an electrician apprentice program. Most skilled technical trade apprenticeships last between four and five years. During your apprenticeship, you complete a mixture of classroom instruction and practical work experience under the supervision of a journeyman electrician. You learn how to perform more complex tasks than those as an electrician assistant. After completing the apprenticeship, you can work independently as a journeyman electrician so long as you also obtain a local, state, or national license depending on where you want to work.
