Shaw Industries is searching for a Staff Electrical Engineer who will lead the development, design, and execution of electrical and powersystem projects while also providing technical support to our manufacturing facilities. Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, you'll work on multidisciplinary initiatives, collaborating closely with manufacturing leadership, corporate teams, and external partners to bring complex projects from concept to completion.

Although you'll occasionally support areas such as mechanical systems or manufacturing processes, your primary focus will be innovative electrical engineering solutions. Key responsibilities include gathering design criteria, developing engineering designs, preparing technical specifications and schedules, creating engineered drawings, assembling project estimates, and applying projectmanagement tools to ensure every project meets our standards for safety, quality, performance, schedule, and budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Project Development and Administration

  • Develop and execute capital and expensed projects, sometimes large and complex, with detailed scopes of work, detailed schedules, and appropriations-grade budgets.

  • Solicit detailed stakeholder design criteria and translates same into actionable technical designs, plans, and scope elements to ensure achievement of project objectives.

  • Partner with project stakeholders to develop project options and proposals to facilitate decision-making by business leaders.

  • Develop and submit detailed documentation required to solicit project approval through online project administration software tools.

  • Maintain project files and publish periodic project reports.

  • Project Management and Execution

  • Consistently apply technical standards, engineering best practices, project management processes, and project management tools, and champion the use of the same with facility-level engineering teams.

  • Track spending and maintain control of project cost performance. Act as the primary point of accountability for adherence to the project budgets.

  • Manage onsite contractor activities, ensuring consistent enforcement of regulatory, corporate and plant policies such as safety, ethics, environmental, etc.

  • Minimize project-related disruptions to normal plant activities and coordinate necessary disruptions with plant management in advance.

  • Perform project-related quality control functions, inspecting vendor-supplied equipment and construction work to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, timeline requirements, and other requirements as defined in contract packages.

  • Provide an active onsite resource for project commissioning, startup, and optimization.

Technical Expertise

  • Possess strong knowledge of the design of electrical systems in an industrial environment including 12470 Volt, 4160 Volt, and 480 Volt power distribution.

  • Possess strong working knowledge of and adheres to the requirements of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 70B (Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance), and NESC/ANSI C2 (National Electric Safety Code).

  • Develop and retain process knowledge and related manufacturing expertise necessary to successfully execute projects and job assignments.

  • Collaborate with facility teams, technical teams, and other engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and business opportunities.

  • Provide coaching and support for engineers and other facility-level technical resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with power distribution and equipment installation.

  • Location: This position will be primarily based out of the Aiken or Columbia, SC with project management assignments and responsibilities potentially requiring work at any Shaw facility location.

  • 4 year degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

Corporate Project Engineer Requirements:

  • Must be able to work project-related overtime, including periodic after-hours support.

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must have proficiency in project management and engineering software tools, including Smartsheet, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products, or the willingness to learn these tools.

  • Must be able to travel, both domestic (approximately 30%) and international (infrequent).

  • 2 years of industrial and/or engineering experience related to project management

Corporate Senior Project Engineer Requirements:

  • Must meet all requirements of a Project Engineer II

  • 4-year engineering or engineering technology degree and 3-5 years of industrial and/or engineering experience related to project management OR 5 years equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years as a Project Engineer

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in project management, including but not limited to development of designs and specifications, scheduling, estimating, installation, and project administration.

Corporate Engineer Requirements:

  • Must meet all requirements of a Project Engineer and Senior Project Engineer

  • 4-year engineering or engineering technology degree and 5-7 years of industrial and/or engineering experience related to project management OR equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years as a Senior Project Engineer

  • Demonstrated success with managing multiple large projects simultaneously
