Project Overview:
Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far - enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium. Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for pre-commissioning and commissioning planning and activities. You will coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, and clients to leverage diverse technical team skills to integrate the startup plan. You will identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively correct courses to ensure goals, schedules, and requirements are met. LI-NP1
Major Responsibilities:
  • Report to the Thacker Pass Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer.
  • Plan and coordinate daily testing and commissioning activities for assigned areas.
  • Support pre-commissioning forecasting and preparation efforts.
  • Coordinate with management, engineering, and construction to ensure commissioning requirements are incorporated into project activities.
  • Supervise testing crews, vendors, and subcontractors to safely execute electrical testing.
  • Develop and maintain system testing and turnover documentation, including scoping drawings and SetRoute.
  • Prepare test procedures, records, and related commissioning documents.
  • Direct subcontractors performing commissioning activities, including HVAC balancing, fire protection, emissions, and electrical testing.
  • Plan, monitor, and control subcontractor work to meet budget and schedule requirements.
  • Maintain daily records and reports of subcontractor activities.
  • Complete test records, data sheets, and other required documentation.
  • Assemble, review, and prepare system turnover packages in accordance with project procedures.
  • Supervise field craft personnel and monitor performance against project objectives and budget.
  • Lead system turnover walkdowns and manage punch list development, tracking, and resolution.
  • Support project requirements through shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Perform live electrical work in accordance with corporate procedures and NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of project objectives.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
  • Experience in mining processes is preferred
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, Smart Completions, Bechtel Productivity System, PTR, and other automation toos which are used on Bechtel projects is an asset.
