Electrical System Integration information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in electrical system integration roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Electrical System Integration often encounter challenges such as coordinating cross-functional teams, managing system compatibility issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Effective communication and strong project management skills are essential, as these roles frequently require collaboration with mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers. Staying current with evolving technologies and regulatory requirements also helps address integration hurdles. Proactively participating in design reviews and thorough testing can further minimize integration risks and improve system reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical system integration engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical System Integration Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, system architecture, and experience with power distribution and control systems, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD tools, simulation software (like MATLAB/Simulink), and industry standards such as IEC or IEEE, along with certifications like Professional Engineer (PE), is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication enable you to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and resolve complex integration issues. These capabilities ensure that electrical systems are safely and efficiently integrated, meeting both technical requirements and regulatory standards.

What is the difference between Electrical System Integration vs Electrical Design Engineer?

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Electrical System Test Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Costa Mesa, CA. In this role, you will work closely with avionics, system, and software engineers to create test systems for development, qualification, verification, and validation purposes. If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer operated hardware, we are looking for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Core Responsibility: Own EMC test readiness end-to-end from translating designs into test configurations to driving schedules and deliverables across teams.
  • Create test systems to support all phases of product development.
  • Define cable harnesses, breakout interfaces, and test hardware setups.
  • Collaborate with SW/FW for test modes, stimulation, and telemetry.
  • Configure and verify DUT operating modes prior to and during EMC testing.
  • Develop and maintain test setup and configuration documentation.
  • Track and drive on-time delivery of test hardware, fixtures, and support equipment to the EMC team.
  • Proactively manage the test schedule based on hardware availability, coordinate across disciplines, and remove blockers to eliminate dead time.
  • Maintain real-time visibility into schedule risks and escalate early to keep milestones on track.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to identify issues and drive design choices.
  • Conduct root cause analysis in support of vehicle integration and field operations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years design experience with NX CAD software for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Proficient in designing electrical harnessing for rugged commercial, industrial, aerospace, or military applications.
  • Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS422, RS232, MIL-STD-1553).
  • Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable harness drawings.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experienced and familiar with aircraft avionics module vendors and avionics component suppliers in UAS programs.
  • Exposure to EMC/EMI testing or familiarity with MIL-STD-461G test methods.
  • Experience working in or supporting EMC test lab environments (shielded rooms, anechoic chambers).
  • Familiarity with EMC test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, LISNs, current probes, or signal generators.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., LTspice, MATLAB, ADS) for filter or signal analysis.
