Electrical Engineer – Automotive Manufacturing

Our clients seeking support are often looking to fill positions quickly and in multiple locations across the United States. As such we intend on developing a pool of interested and eligible candidates who can be utilized when our clients make their requests.

We are seeking Manufacturing Project Engineers to support various production engineering teams, including battery manufacturing, process engineering, equipment installation, new model development, and paint/vehicle manufacturing systems.

About the Role

Electrical Project Engineers support electrical system design, equipment installation planning, commissioning, and compliance activities across automotive manufacturing and facility expansion projects.

Assignments may include electrical utility planning for battery manufacturing, controls engineering for automation systems, building system commissioning, code compliance evaluations, and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure.

This role involves collaboration with construction teams, maintenance groups, third‑party contractors, and production engineering to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable electrical operations.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Planning & Engineering

  • Specify and procure electrical devices including circuit breakers, bus plugs, transformers, and distribution components
  • Develop or review layouts for bus plugs, cable trays, data trays, field devices, and panel arrangements
  • Support electrical design of presses, automation upgrades, and control system modifications
  • Develop, review, and update electrical drawings, schematics, and panel layouts

Commissioning & Validation

  • Facilitate electrical building system startups and commissioning activities
  • Conduct field reviews of trip unit settings, breaker configurations, and protective device coordination
  • Oversee implementation of electrical settings with facility teams

Compliance & Code Review

  • Apply NFPA70E, NEC, NFPA79, and other electrical codes to ensure compliance
  • Support mitigation of fault current and arc flash issues
  • Conduct inspections of electrical installations to verify adherence to codes, specifications, and safety requirements

Project Management & Coordination

  • Manage multiple project assignments simultaneously
  • Review product submittals, shop drawings, design specifications, and contractor RFIs
  • Coordinate vendor testing, equipment delivery, installation, commissioning, and turnover
  • Support work planning during weekends or plant shutdown periods
  • Prepare engineering status reports and communicate progress to project managers

Controls & Automation Support

  • Program, troubleshoot, or modify PLC logic (Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi)
  • Provide HMI design support and control system integration where required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR Master Electrician License
  • 5 to 10+ years of experience
  • Extensive experience applying electrical codes (NFPA70E, NEC, NFPA79)
  • Strong background in specifying and procuring electrical equipment up to 1000V
  • Proficient with EasyPower electrical design software
  • Significant experience in electrical system planning and equipment installation
  • Proven background mitigating fault current and arc‑flash hazards
  • Experience designing cable tray routing, panel layouts, network switches, and related hardware
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience
  • PLC programming experience (Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi preferred)
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and team collaboration skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, plant shutdowns, and be on call as needed
  • Ability to travel (10–50% depending on assignment)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in automotive or industrial manufacturing facilities
  • Knowledge of Toyota Production System principles
  • Experience with stamping press equipment or automation systems
  • Construction management experience (2+ years)
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards (IBC, NESC, ASME, ASHRAE, etc.)
  • Experience with BluBeam or AutoCAD drafting tools
