Summary

The Pipefitter is responsible for the layout, assembly, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of piping systems and related components in support of industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and capital projects. Work may be performed within refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, manufacturing, LNG, and other heavy industrial environments. The Pipefitter works from construction drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometric drawings, specifications, and work packages to properly fit and assemble piping systems, valves, fittings, supports, and related components. The position requires demonstrated knowledge of industrial piping systems, materials, measurements, layout, and installation practices and the ability to perform assigned work safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, Company procedures, and customer requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant industrial pipefitting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with the layout, fit-up, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial piping systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret piping isometric drawings, P&IDs, construction drawings, specifications, spool drawings, and work packages applicable to assigned work.
  • Ability to perform pipefitting calculations, measurements, offsets, elevations, centerlines, and layout necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Working knowledge of industrial piping materials, fittings, valves, flanges, supports, and related components.
  • Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy, and other industrial piping materials and systems preferred.
  • Previous experience working in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facilities preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized pipefitting apprenticeship, technical training program, or equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience preferred.
  • NCCER Pipefitting certification or other recognized craft certification preferred.
  • OSHA training or other applicable industry safety training preferred.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred or ability to obtain one when required by project or customer assignment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and other equipment associated with industrial pipefitting.
  • Ability to successfully complete required Company, customer, and site-specific safety training, orientations, and access requirements.
  • Ability to work required schedules, which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, night shifts, and turnaround/outage schedules.
  • Ability to travel or accept temporary assignment to different project or customer locations as required by business needs.

  • Ability to identify piping components, fittings, valves, flanges, gaskets, bolting, supports, and piping materials.
  • Ability to accurately measure, calculate, lay out, cut, bevel, fit, and assemble piping and related components.
  • Ability to calculate and lay out offsets, rolling offsets, elevations, centerlines, takeโ€‘outs, and other piping configurations.
  • Working knowledge of piping system alignment, flange alignment, boltโ€‘up, supports, hangers, and installation requirements.
  • Understanding of applicable industrial construction quality requirements, tolerances, and inspection expectations.
  • Ability to recognize damaged, defective, improperly installed, or nonconforming piping materials and workmanship.
  • Strong awareness of lineโ€‘ofโ€‘fire hazards, suspended loads, stored energy, hot work, excavation hazards, mobile equipment, and other hazards associated with industrial pipefitting activities.

Essential Functions
  • Lay out, assemble, install, maintain, modify, and repair industrial piping systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, work packages, and project requirements.
  • Read and interpret piping isometrics, P&IDs, construction drawings, specifications, spool drawings, and other technical documents necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Measure, calculate, mark, cut, bevel, prepare, fit, and assemble pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and related piping components.
  • Calculate and lay out piping offsets, rolling offsets, elevations, centerlines, takeโ€‘outs, and other configurations required for proper installation.
  • Position and align piping components for fitโ€‘up and welding in accordance with applicable drawings, tolerances, and project requirements.
  • Install and align valves, flanges, fittings, piping supports, hangers, guides, and related components.
  • Verify dimensions, elevations, orientation, alignment, flange condition, and component placement prior to final assembly or welding.
  • Perform flange assembly and boltโ€‘up activities using approved procedures, tools, and torque requirements when trained, qualified, and authorized.
  • Assist with the installation, removal, modification, and replacement of piping systems and components during construction, maintenance, turnaround, and outage activities.
  • Inspect piping materials and components before installation and promptly report damaged, incorrect, defective, or nonconforming materials to supervision.
  • Identify field interferences, dimensional discrepancies, drawing conflicts, constructability concerns, or other conditions that may affect piping installation and promptly communicate concerns to supervision.
  • Coordinate assigned activities with welders, riggers, equipment operators, other crafts, quality personnel, safety personnel, and project supervision.
  • Assist with material handling and rigging activities when trained, qualified, and authorized to perform such work.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment for which the employee has been trained and authorized.
  • Support piping system testing, inspection, flushing, commissioning, and turnover activities as assigned and within the employee's training and qualifications.
  • Follow Company safety policies, applicable regulatory requirements, project procedures, and customer site requirements.
  • Participate in pre-task planning, JHAs/JSAs, toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, and required training.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist and immediately communicate safety concerns to supervision.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and promptly report damaged, defective, or unsafe equipment.
  • Maintain assigned work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the position's responsibilities, training, qualifications, and authorization.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
  • Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
    • hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPE.
  • Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
  • Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
  • Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
  • Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
