How much do electrical motor control jobs pay per year?
What does an electrical motor control do?
What is an electrical motor control?
An Electrical Motor Control job involves designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems that regulate the operation of electric motors. Professionals in this role work with control circuits, variable frequency drives (VFDs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and other automation components to ensure efficient motor performance. They are commonly employed in industries like manufacturing, HVAC, and automation, where motor-driven equipment plays a crucial role.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in electrical motor control, and why are they important?
To excel in Electrical Motor Control, you need a solid understanding of electrical theory, motor operation, and control systems, typically gained through technical training or an associate degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and troubleshooting electrical circuits—often supported by certifications like the NCCER Electrician Certification—are essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities help professionals diagnose issues quickly and work safely as part of a team. These skills ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of motor control systems in industrial and commercial environments.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in electrical motor control?
Professionals in Electrical Motor Control are usually responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electric motors and their associated control systems. Daily tasks often include reading electrical schematics, wiring motor control panels, programming or adjusting control devices like PLCs or VFDs, and performing regular inspections to ensure equipment reliability. You may also be involved in diagnosing unexpected equipment failures and collaborating with engineering or maintenance teams to implement effective solutions. Routine documentation and communication with supervisors or project managers are key components of the workflow. This role offers a dynamic mix of hands-on activities and technical problem-solving in fast-paced industrial settings.
