ATC Automation is seeking a Machine Builder to join our team in Cookeville, Tennessee. In this role, you will combine hands-on mechanical skills with innovative automation technology to build custom automated assembly and test systems for customers across a variety of industries.
As a Machine Builder, you will assemble, install, troubleshoot, rebuild, and repair custom automation equipment using engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation. Working alongside engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality automation systems that meet customer specifications, project schedules, and ATC's quality standards.
This is a full-time, direct-hire position based at ATC Automation's headquarters in Cookeville, Tennessee.

How You'll Contribute
  • Assemble, fit, install, rebuild, and repair custom automated machinery and equipment using engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to support equipment assembly, troubleshooting, and system integration.
  • Verify bills of materials (BOMs) and confirm components are installed according to engineering designs and customer requirements.
  • Align machine components and assemblies, verify critical tolerances, and ensure proper fit, function, and performance.
  • Perform machine setup, operational testing, equipment tryouts, and performance validation prior to customer acceptance.
  • Complete layout work including locating, drilling, tapping, and fitting components required for machine assembly.
  • Create accurate hand sketches and measurements to support fabrication, modifications, or engineering updates.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and assembly-related issues, identify root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Evaluate nonconforming components and determine appropriate disposition, including repair, rework, or replacement in accordance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Controls Engineers, Designers, and fellow Machine Builders throughout the machine build process.
  • Read electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and I/O layouts to assist with low-voltage verification and pneumatic system plumbing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following company safety procedures and best practices.
  • Assist the Machining and Fabrication departments as needed to support production schedules and overall project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business and customer needs.

Ideal Technical Experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, assembly prints, and technical specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience assembling precision machinery, automated equipment, or custom machines.
  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting, machine alignment, and equipment setup.
  • Working knowledge of machining processes, fabrication methods, toolmaking, and mechanical design concepts.
  • Experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and hydraulic drawings.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation equipment, conveyors, robotics, servo systems, or automated assembly equipment is preferred.
  • Experience identifying and resolving assembly issues while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team environment.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or vocational training in manufacturing, machining, mechanical assembly, or a related field preferred.
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience in machine building, industrial assembly, manufacturing, or a related mechanical field.
