Structural Strength Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technician
Engineering Technician, III
Huntsville, Alabama
HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 is currently seeking a Structural Strength Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technician to work onsite in a laboratory environment at Redstone Arsenal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assembling space flight test articles.
  • Performing routine maintenance, installation/integration of various types of mechanical and instrumentation components such as strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, load cells, hydraulic actuators, tubing, etc.
  • Instrumentation applications, data collection and analysis, network maintenance, electrical assembly, soldering, crimping, fabricating various types of cables/connectors.
  • Specialized handling, transportation, operation of one of a kind test articles and associated components.
  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
  • May be required to operate within confined spaces.
  • Interfacing directly with MSFC customers, technicians, and other test team members.
  • This position will perform other duties as required to fulfill the mission of the MSFC Structural Strength Testing Branch.
  • Must adhere to MSFC and OSHA safety requirements, including use of appropriate PPE when necessary and follow written technical procedures.

Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Some practical knowledge of science or engineering
  • Some practical knowledge of mathematics
  • Must be able to work from written and verbal instructions
  • Good communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Must be dependable and willing to work hours outside the normal schedule
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship
  • Experience reading and understanding specifications and detailed work instructions

Preferred Experience:
  • Associate degree or high school diploma and/or 3 years equivalent technical experience
  • Experience should include a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems for personal computers and MS Office products
  • Experience with forklifts, aerial lifts, and bridge cranes

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours.
Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain NASA Public Trust background screening requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.
  • All positions supporting the METTS III contract are subject to NASA medical screenings at the start of employment and annually, as determined by the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
