Job description

The ECI Group has an immediate need for an contract Senior Instrumentation / Electrical Designer in our Baton Rouge office to support ongoing electrical instrumentation and control designs for our petrochemical business lines.
Note: This is a 8 month 1099 contract position with an estimated start date in July 2026 thru March 2027. No sponsorship provided.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical and management interface on assigned projects.
  • Manages necessary resources for execution scattered across multiple remote sites with different time zones.
  • Lead a team of designers and drafters on the project.
  • Generates design and detail drawings including schematics, wiring, installation details, plans/sections.
  • Interprets area classification drawings and develop area classification details
  • Interacts with Clients to convey project design and identify scope changes that will affect project schedule or client budgets.
  • Interacts with the lead engineer on the project and other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
  • Reviews project/discipline deliverables for compliance with industry accepted design principles, company standards and customer contract specifications.
  • Attend regular project update meetings with the lead engineer and the client.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • 10+ years design experience
  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline preferred
  • AutoCAD Certificate or minimum of 5 years proven AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient in basic computer functions required to perform AutoCAD 2-D, AutoCAD 3-D, Raster, and MicroStation a plus.
  • Proficient in standard drafting techniques and in field investigations and measurements
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • TWIC card requirement.
