Electrical Field Service Engineer

Location: Ohio-Based | Travel: 75%+
Department: Field Service
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain critical electrical power distribution equipment used in data center environments. This is a hands-on field position for a dependable technician who can work independently, solve technical problems, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.

What You'll Do
  • Install, start up, test, and commission power distribution systems
  • Verify system operation and perform functional testing
  • Configure and troubleshoot HMIs and control interfaces
  • Diagnose electrical issues involving 3-phase power systems, transformers, high-voltage components, and switchgear/distribution equipment
  • Troubleshoot systems systematically and identify root causes in live infrastructure environments
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Follow applicable electrical codes and safety requirements
  • Act as the onsite technical contact and coordinate with engineering and internal teams
  • Train customer operators and maintenance personnel
  • Communicate system conditions, findings, and next steps clearly through conversations, emails, and service reports
  • Document service activities, labor hours, parts usage, and technical findings in the company system
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend improvements to products and service processes
  • Assist with service procedures, technical documentation, training materials, and internal knowledge resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required:

  • 3-7+ years of experience in field service, electrical service, or a similar technical role
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities
  • Working knowledge of 24V, 120V, and 480V systems
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of fuses, breakers, and transformers
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Willingness to travel 75%+, including occasional short-notice travel
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills

Preferred:

  • Experience working with data center power infrastructure
  • Familiarity with switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, RPPs, or similar equipment
  • Previous commissioning support experience
  • OSHA certification or formal safety training
