Job description

We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead a team and play a critical role in shaping the technology behind our connected fitness products. This role will manage the Life Fitness Console team and is responsible for overseeing development of all consoles used in our products. These consoles feature LED/LCD displays, touch screens, Android & Linux single board computer integration, TV tuners, ethernet, and several other communication protocols. In addition, HDMI and other video interfaces and various wireless technologies including WiFi, NFC & Bluetooth.
This manager will collaborate with multiple cross-functional design teams and contract manufactures and design partners in developing new cardio fitness equipment and lead a team of six engineers with a wide variety of experience. The manager will lead development of products from development through design validation to production and sustaining ensuring they meet performance, quality, cost and schedule goals.
This is a hybrid role, based out of the Nieto-Jones Performance Center in Schaumburg, IL. #LI-Hybrid - Monday and Friday are remote, Tuesday through Thursday are in-office collaboration days.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Define and specify electrical systems and controls for console applications
  • Develop and ensure execution of various tasks related to engineering projects including schematic capture, PCB layout, floor plan, component placement and design for manufacture & EMC
  • Own full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments
  • Partner with individuals and other departments within the organization, outside suppliers, consultants, and other sources to ensure successful implementation of company objectives
  • Directly supervise engineers, set direction and determine resource allocation
  • Provide technical guidance as needed to project teams
  • Mentor and develop junior level engineers
  • Conduct performance reviews

Required Skills/Capabilities
  • Project management skills related to resource management and conducting meetings
  • Ability to read and analyze electrical/electronic circuits/schematics is required
  • Experience problem solving and troubleshooting is required, along with ability to train others in these skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new tools, software and organizations

Education and Experience
  • BSEE or equivalent required/preferred
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience required
  • 5+ years of experience designing analog and/or power electronics is required
  • 2-5 years of people leadership either professionally or volunteer is preferred
  • Experience with console peripherals in summary is a plus

The salary range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $109,400 - $153,800 annually.The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Life Fitness Schaumburg and the actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.This position is eligible to participate in Life Fitness / Hammer Strength's annual Manager Incentive Plan to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of bonus varies based on company and individual performance goals and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
