Job description

Sappi, Cloquet Operations, is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Electrical Engineering student to fill a Co-op position available in the Engineering Department. This full-time paid co-op is a nine month co-op opportunity starting in January 2026.
The co-op engineer will work with Electrical Engineers to perform tasks within the mill. Role is defined by the following:
  1. Initial Training
    1. Goal is to learn about and provide CAD drafting services, document management support, as required under the supervision of the Lead Project Engineer and/or Lead Designer.
    2. Duties
      1. Computer Aided Drafting - Provide layout and detailed drawings for Electrical, Instrumentation, and general engineering design.
      2. Document Management Support - Distribution, filing and maintenance of all drawings and associated documents.
      3. Complete all company safety training.
  2. Engineering Duties
    1. After completing initial training, the student will be assigned an Engineer to work with.
    2. Assist engineer in planning and implementing projects to improve production efficiency.
    3. Assist others with special projects and presentations when requested.
  3. Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
    1. Microsoft Word and Excel experience required.
    2. Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, Microsoft FrontPage, Autodesk ACAD, and Autodesk Inventor is desirable.
    3. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with other people in a respectful, consistent and fair manner.
    4. Good organizing, planning and coordinating abilities.
    5. Creativity in creating new methods of displaying and presenting documentation in the forms of drawings, pictures, text and combinations of all of these.
    6. Must have a valid driver's license with a demonstrated safe driving record.

The pulp and paper industry has much to offer the Electrical Engineering student. This is a great opportunity to gain real-world engineering experience while contributing to Sappi's objectives and success.
Students interested should have completed a minimum of 2 years in an accredited engineering program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and transcripts.
