Electrical Engineering Intern | Germantown, MD

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in Germantown, MD to support the engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist with real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants in a paid, mentored internship.

In this role, you'll support project documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and periodic job site observations while working within project budgets and client expectations. You'll contribute to work serving government/municipal and science & technology markets, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with electrical design tasks for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
  • Assist with researching commercially available equipment and related resources.
  • Assist with maintaining client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule needs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring design progress.
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement.

What You'll Bring

Required Education

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Previous exposure to CAD and/or BIM software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

State of Maryland Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.

Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
