What does an electrical engineer project manager do?

An Electrical Engineer Project Manager oversees electrical engineering projects from conception to completion. They coordinate teams, manage budgets and schedules, ensure compliance with safety standards, and serve as a liaison between clients and technical staff. Their role combines technical electrical engineering expertise with strong project management skills to deliver successful outcomes on time and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical engineer project manager?

To thrive as an Electrical Engineer Project Manager, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles, project management methodologies, and typically a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering along with a PMP certification. Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer Our client, one of the largest and most respected facility management and real estate services companies in the industry, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their Professional Services team. In this role, you will independently manage multiple electrical design projects from initiation through completion, overseeing scope, deliverables, CAD workflows, budgets, financials, and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction. You will be responsible for developing electrical system designs for base-building applications, tenant environments, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure across both new and existing facilities.

This work involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, facility managers, and technicians, and includes power distribution, utility connections, lighting, controls, emergency power, life-safety systems, fire alarms, renewable energy systems, and mechanical equipment integrations. Although this role functions as an individual contributor, you will be expected to provide senior-level guidance, leadership, and mentorship to junior engineers while supporting ongoing improvements in processes, quality control practices, standard specifications, and design best practices. You will also contribute to maintaining strong client relationships, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and ensuring that all electrical deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and technical excellence.

Ideal candidates will bring a minimum of eight years of electrical engineering and design experience, a strong understanding of electrical and building codes, and a background in engineering consulting. You should be detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable managing concurrent projects while working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, proficiency with computer tools and the MS Office suite, and an ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues are essential.

Bilingual communication skills and familiarity with building mechanical systems are considered assets. Applicants must hold an electrical engineering degree from an accredited university and be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng., PEO), with additional provincial licenses considered beneficial. If you are a seasoned electrical engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys contributing both technical expertise and leadership, our client offers an exceptional opportunity to grow your career within a highly respected organization.
