Job description

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer. This is a true Electrical Engineering role focused on electrical system design, power distribution, control panel design, electrical schematics, machine wiring architecture, and industrial power systems who will be responsible for the design, development, and support of the electrical systems that power NPI's automated mail and parcel sortation equipment. This is a highly technical electrical engineering role focused on electrical design, power distribution, electrical schematics, control panel design, power systems, and wiring architecture for industrial equipment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing and documenting complete electrical systems, including power distribution networks, industrial control panels, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, and electrical bills of material. This position will be responsible for selecting and specifying electrical components such as circuit protection devices, disconnects, power supplies, relays, terminal blocks, motor controls, VFDs, and power distribution equipment while ensuring compliance with applicable electrical and safety standards.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will develop and maintain production-ready electrical drawing packages, perform electrical load calculations, conductor sizing, voltage drop analysis, and support electrical system troubleshooting throughout the product lifecycle. This role will also establish and maintain wiring architecture standards and electrical design practices that improve reliability, maintainability, manufacturability, and serviceability across NPI's product portfolio.

Working closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Field Services, the Senior Electrical Engineer will take ownership of electrical designs from concept through production release, installation, commissioning, and ongoing product support. While the position interfaces with PLC-based control systems, its primary focus is the design and implementation of robust industrial electrical systems rather than PLC programming or automation software development.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial power systems, control panel design, machine electrical architecture, motor control systems, electrical documentation, and applicable standards including NEC, NFPA, UL508A, CSA, IEC, and CE requirements, enabling the delivery of safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective solutions for NPI customers worldwide.

  • Understands relevant international electrical and safety agency codes (UL, CSA, NEC, IEC, CE) to formulate the product requirements based on these codes and translate them into physical product features that meet these requirements.
  • Develops schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions for electrical controls.
  • Create control panel layouts for motor control, AC & DC power distribution and low voltage I/O controls associated with PLC’s, VFD’s, safety relays and PCB’s.
  • Report project progress and status to the Project Manager and Engineering Manager (Project Status Report including risks and opportunities).
  • Maintain existing PCB designs.
  • Support Field Technicians for install and debug of PCB controlled systems.
