Job description

Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Project Engineer to join our Corporate Engineering team in Troutville, VA. This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing all electrical aspects of projects within the cement manufacturing operation.  This includes the planning, design, execution, and completion of electrical projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.  The role requires a strong technical background in electrical engineering, project management skills, and experience in the cement or similar heavy industry.

Responsibilities
  • Project Planning and Management:
    • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and budgets for electrical projects
    • Coordinate with other departments (mechanical, civil, process) to ensure integrated project planning
    • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost control measures are in place
  • Design and Engineering:
    • Lead the design and engineering of electrical systems and components for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations
    • Review and approve electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Procurement and Contracts:
    • Collaborate with the procurement team to source electrical equipment and materials
    • Evaluate and select vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage relationships with suppliers
    • Ensure timely delivery and quality of materials and equipment
  • Project Execution and Monitoring:
    • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment
    • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies
    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Team Leadership and Coordination:
    • Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers, technicians, and contractors
    • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities
    • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project team members
  • Quality Assurance and Safety:
    • Implement and enforce quality assurance protocols for electrical projects
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to mitigate hazards
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design files, progress reports, and change orders
    • Ensure proper handover of completed projects to the operations and maintenance teams
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A Master's degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plu.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in electrical project management, preferably in the cement manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices
    • Proficiency in project management software and tools
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
    • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations
