Job description

MSA is looking for a Project Engineer – Electrical in our Des Moines IA office to help design and deliver essential infrastructure projects that support the communities we live, work and play in. 

This position is ideal for an electrical engineer who enjoys hands-on building design projects and strengthening client relationships.  You’ll work alongside an experienced team and project managers while also mentoring junior staff and contributing to meaningful projects that make a difference.

What You’ll DoDesign and Engineering
  • Design electrical systems for buildings projects

  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and construction documents

  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical engineers

  • Ensure designs meet industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Project Delivery
  • Support the planning, design, and construction phases of infrastructure projects

  • Monitor project scope, schedule, and budgets for assigned tasks

  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical expertise

  • Assist with construction observation, field reviews, and troubleshooting during project implementation

Collaboration and Leadership
  • Work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams

  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff

  • Support proposal development and help grow client relationships

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

Experience

  • 4+ years of electrical engineering experience

Skills

  • Knowledge of electrical systems

  • Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, BIM tools, or electrical modeling programs

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple project priorities

Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa required

The salary for this position ranges from $79,000 to $126,500 per year commensurate with experience.  Higher compensation within this range will be paid to canidates with significant experience and exceptional qualifications.
