Job description

Overview
As an Electrical Engineer on the M.C. Dean Sustainability team, you lead efforts to enhance the performance, safety, and reliability of electrical systems at various facilities. This role combines expertise in power systems studies, power quality analysis, and electrical engineering to ensure electrical system health and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including facilities management, operations, and engineering, to drive sustainable practices while maintaining operational excellence and cost-effectiveness.
Clearance Requirement: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
Responsibilities
This position will be a hands-on Engineering role responsible for performing these tasks:
  • Perform detailed arc flash hazard analysis in accordance with IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Perform short-circuit, protective device coordination, and load flow studies.
  • Perform power quality analysis to identify issues at existing facilities.
  • Develop electrical system models using software such as SKM, PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Collect and interpret site-specific electrical data, including one-line diagrams, equipment ratings, and protective device settings.
  • Develop and update electrical one-line diagrams for client facilities.
  • Prepare and review arc flash reports, including incident energy calculations and recommended PPE levels.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to clients on electrical safety compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with field technicians, safety personnel, and project managers to ensure accurate data collection and project execution.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training materials on electrical safety and arc flash aware

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of work experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; 3+ years of work experience with a Master of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Experience leading troubleshooting, commissioning, and testing projects in power systems
  • Experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on existing buildings and infrastructure.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Ability to obtain & maintain a Top-Secret Clearance required.
  • Knowledge of electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Experience interpreting electrical drawings, utility coordination, and protective relaying schemes.

Candidate Expectations:
  • Experience in conducting Arc Flash Hazard Analysis using NFPA 70E and IEEE standards.
  • Ability to use Arc Flash software, such as SKM or ETAP to produce analysis reports and conduct report reviews. Minimum experience required of 7 Years
  • Must possess experience in the most current electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Requires knowledge of NFPA 70E and applicable OSHA standards, working knowledge of the NEC, and demonstrated working experience on or around energized equipment in an industrial setting including proper PPE to ensure a safe work environment and personnel safety.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills to be used in responding to electrical safety questions and performing program presentations.
  • Be willing to travel occasionally to client sites for field data collection or support.
  • Exhibit professionalism in client-facing situations and written documentation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of codes and standards related to electrical safety and power systems.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the arc flash analysis team.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office applications to include Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office and MS Power Point.
