Job description

Zachry Engineering Corporation is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer II to join our Omaha, Nebraska office. This position is responsible for developing electrical design deliverables for industrial, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure projects. The Electrical Designer II works independently on routine assignments and collaboratively with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to produce high-quality electrical design packages that meet project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.
  • Associates degree in Drafting Technology, Electrical Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Minimum 2-7 years of electrical design experience supporting industrial, power, energy, manufacturing, or EPC projects.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other industry-standard design software.
    • Experience developing electrical design deliverables from engineering sketches, specifications, and marked-up drawings.
    • Working knowledge of:
      • Power distribution systems
      • Motor control systems
      • Lighting systems
      • Grounding systems
      • Raceway and cable routing design
    • Ability to interpret electrical engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
    Preferred
    • Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project environments.
    • Proficiency with Smart 3D (S3D), Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or MicroStation.
    • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NEMA, and applicable industry standards.
    • Experience supporting power generation, renewable energy, data center, industrial manufacturing, or utility projects.
    • Previous experience mentoring junior designers or drafters.

Physical Demands
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.
Work Environment
Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.

  • Prepare and develop electrical design deliverables for a variety of industrial and energy-related projects.
  • Create and maintain:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Electrical equipment layouts
    • Cable tray layouts
    • Lighting and grounding plans
    • Area classification drawings
    • Wiring and interconnection diagrams
    • Electrical installation details
    • Cable schedules and material take-offs
  • Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, SmartSketch, and/or 3D modeling platforms to produce accurate design documents.
  • Coordinate electrical design activities with mechanical, civil, structural, process, instrumentation, and piping disciplines.
  • Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and constructability assessments.
  • Support field verification efforts and incorporate field changes into project documentation.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of department standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Monitor assigned work for schedule adherence, quality, and completeness.
  • Assist in mentoring and providing guidance to junior designers and drafters.
