Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Crane & Electrical Specialist (Engineer/Technician) opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.
Work Location: Aiken, SC
Crane & Electrical Specialist (Engineer/Technician)-
The Crane Electrical Specialist (Engineer/Technician) is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving electrical and control systems for cranes, hoisting equipment, and heavy industrial machinery within an operating, highly regulated facility. This role serves as the primary electrical expert for critical lifting and material handling systems, focusing on diagnosing complex electrical faults, restoring equipment functionality, and supporting system reliability and upgrades.
Duties:
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for overhead cranes, hoists, and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose issues involving motors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, relays, sensors, and power distribution systems.
  • Analyze and resolve intermittent faults, control logic issues, and system failures impacting crane operation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, loop diagrams, and vendor documentation.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of crane control systems, pendant/radio controls, limit switches, and safety interlocks.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical components to ensure system reliability.
  • Support equipment upgrades, control system modifications, and obsolescence replacements.
  • Interface with mechanical and rigging teams to support integrated troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Assist with inspections, testing, and commissioning of crane electrical systems.
  • Maintain documentation, troubleshooting records, and work packages in accordance with site procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety practices, including LOTO and NFPA 70E requirements.

Education/Experience:
Technician Level-
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in electrical or instrumentation preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, preferably in cranes or heavy equipment.
  • Strong experience with motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams.

Engineer Level-
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting industrial electrical systems, controls, or equipment troubleshooting (or 7+ years equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Experience analyzing electrical failures and supporting system improvements and upgrades.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with overhead bridge cranes, hoists, and lifting system controls.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming/troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
  • Experience with VFDs, motor starters, MCCs, and industrial power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of control systems, interlocks, and safety systems in heavy equipment.
  • Experience in DOE, nuclear, or highly regulated industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and feedback systems used in crane operation.
  • Experience with equipment testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting in operating facilities.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
