This role is ideal for individuals with strong technical aptitude who are eager to learn, grow, and play a critical role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of Michigan's electric grid.As an ATSO, you'll work alongside experienced, NERC-certified System Operators to develop the skills needed to monitor and operate Wolverine's transmission system, respond to system events, and support compliance with industry reliability standards. What You'll DoIn this role, you'll gain hands-on experience in:Monitoring and supporting the operation of Wolverine's transmission systemLearning switching procedures and outage coordination processesUtilizing advanced control systems, including SCADA technologyAssisting with outage response and system restoration effortsCoordinating with field personnel, member cooperatives, and neighboring utilitiesSupporting NERC compliance activities and maintaining operational recordsDeveloping the knowledge and skills needed to become a certified Transmission System Operator What We're Looking ForWe are seeking candidates with strong technical aptitude who meet one or more of the following qualifications:Associate degree in a technical or business-related field such as engineering, science, mathematics, accounting, or marketingThree or more years of system operator experience in an electric utility control centerCompletion of a certified electrical apprenticeship programTwo or more years of electric utility experience with the ability to interpret electrical drawingsWhat Will Help You SucceedAbility to obtain NERC Certification and pass Wolverine's System Operator test within 12 monthsStrong verbal and written communication skillsConfidence directing field personnel during routine operations and emergency situationsSound decision-making skills in fast-paced, time-sensitive environmentsStrong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets, databases, and email systemsBasic algebra and analytical problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work independently while maintaining focus and attention to detailAbility to distinguish colors and accurately interpret charts, diagrams, and system dataWillingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and occasional emergency call-insWhy Wolverine?Wolverine Power Cooperative is a member-owned generation and transmission cooperative headquartered in beautiful Cadillac, Michigan.
