Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as an Equipment Maintenance Technician I in West Lafayette, Indiana. Must be willing and able to travel during the first 4-6 months of employment for training, totaling approximately 8-12 weeks in two-week increments.

As an Equipment Maintenance Technician I you'll be responsible for independently performing preventative maintenance of basic complexity on manufacturing equipment, as well as working under the guidance of Supervisor and Tech IIs and IIIs to complete tasks as needed.

A typical day as an Equipment Maintenance Technician I might include:

  • Performing basic troubleshooting and repair of issues found during preventive maintenance and reactive calls.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate entries in the equipment maintenance database.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

This job might be for you if:

  • You have an associate's degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience.
  • You have a basic understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic technology and theory.
  • You have experience maintaining and performing preventive maintenance on production equipment.
  • You have basic knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
  • You have basic knowledge of modern test equipment used to diagnose equipment failures.
  • You have expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • You have the ability to accept and understand direction, learn new skills and assume new responsibilities with a positive attitude.
  • You have the ability to perform assigned tasks under direct guidance.
  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • You have the ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • You have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

It is a plus if you have:

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, including analog, digital, and microprocessor circuits as well as vision and robotics systems.
  • Basic knowledge of programming automated production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of printed circuit board assembly, mechanical assembly, and cable assembly processes

Pay Range: $32.88 - $48.60 per hour

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Tech I level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Equipment Maintenance Technician I: $32.88 - $48.60 per hour

Equipment Maintenance Technician II: $35.83 - $52.94 per hour

Equipment Maintenance Technician III: $40.50 - $59.85 per hour
