Job description

Division Chief, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery
Position Overview
Henry Ford Health is seeking an accomplished Shoulder and Elbow Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the Shoulder and Elbow Division. Consideration will be made for applicants qualified to serve as Division Chief of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. This physician leader will be responsible for the clinical, academic, and operational leadership of the Shoulder and Elbow Division within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
The Division Chief will guide the strategic development and growth of the program across the health system, advance high-quality patient care, support academic scholarship, and foster a collaborative, multidisciplinary culture aligned with the mission of Henry Ford Health.
This role provides the opportunity to lead a highly respected orthopaedic program within a large, integrated academic health system while contributing to innovation in surgical care, research, and education.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for the Shoulder and Elbow Division across the health system.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice focused on advanced shoulder and elbow surgery, including complex reconstruction, arthroplasty, and sports-related injuries.
  • Develop and standardize evidence-based clinical pathways to ensure high-quality outcomes and patient safety.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners including sports medicine, trauma, rehabilitation, radiology, and pain management.

Program Development and Strategy
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Shoulder and Elbow Division, including service line growth, program expansion, and innovation.
  • Identify opportunities to expand advanced surgical techniques, minimally invasive procedures, and new technologies.
  • Support outreach and collaboration across regional hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers within the health system.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance patient access, referral relationships, and program visibility.

Required
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of Orthopaedic Surgery residency.
  • Completion of fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery including arthroplasty, arthroscopy, instability, and fracture.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence in shoulder and elbow surgery.

Preferred
  • 5-10+ years of clinical experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Prior experience leading or building a specialty division, program, or service line.
  • Academic experience including research, publications, and teaching.
  • Experience working within large health systems or academic medical centers.
  • Preference will be given to those at the Associate or Full Professor level or institutional equivalent.
  • Interest in innovation, clinical trials, and outcomes research.
  • History of collaboration in the research with basic and translational scientists including grant participation.
