Job description

Job Opportunity

General Summary of Position

The incumbent in this position will work in a multidisciplinary lab working with a variety of service lines in addition to diagnostic cardiac procedures. Procedures include: angiogram bronchoscopy bone marrow harvest L/R heart caths fistulagram insertion of IVC filters/loop records and renal biopsies. The incumbent in this position will assist with all invasive cardiovascular procedures. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs assorted patient care responsibilities for adults including starting IV's EKG monitoring cardiac outputs and prepping and draping patients.
  • Assists with cardiovascular invasive procedures such as; R & L heart catheterizations PTCA intra-aortic-balloon pump permanent/temporary pacemakers AICD electrophysiology studies pericardiocenteses peripheral arteriograms and angioplasty etc.
  • Performs quality control functions of the X-ray console/equipment before procedures. Runs tapes Digital Subtraction Acquisition and image processing.
  • Assists physician during the procedure. Removes/ pulls arterial and venous sheaths from patient after procedure and apply appropriate manual pressure.
  • Records and interprets hemodynamic data using Sensis monitoring system.
  • Prepares all the equipment sets up field for all cases and cleans room for next procedure..
  • Participates in the orientation training and in-services for cardiovascular technologists and other staff in the department.
  • Assists with the inventory ordering and stocking of supplies and equipment for the Cath Lab.
  • Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • EKG/hemodynamic monitoring required

Experience

  • Minimum of six months as a cardiovascular technologist or similar/ job related experience required
  • Additional exposure preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • RCIS - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist required or
  • RCVT - Registered Cardiovasc Tec required or
  • Registered Radiology Tech (RT) required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • Health Services\ACLS required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Current knowledge and techniques in Cath Lab knowledge of cardiology meds EKG monitoring starting IV's must be able to act quickly and remain calm in stressful and emergency situations.
