Environmental health and safety (EHS) professionals help companies and organizations with issues related to safety and environmental regulations. An EHS consultant usually focuses on assisting a company in mitigating risks and maintaining environmental compliance. Your duties include assessing business operations. If you find an issue related to workplace safety, pollution, or the health of employees or the public, you advise the client about ways that they can address the problem. Some EHS specialists investigate workplace incidents or work with companies that broke environmental regulations. In these scenarios, you find what went wrong and provide advice about potential improvements.
| Aspect | Ehs Consultant | Environmental Specialist |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Certifications like ASP, CSP, or OSHA | Environmental degrees, certifications like LEED or NEPA |
| Work Environment | Consulting firms, client sites, corporate offices | Government agencies, consulting firms, corporate environmental departments |
| Industry Usage | Common in safety, compliance, and risk management | Focus on environmental impact, compliance, and assessment |
While both roles involve environmental and safety considerations, Ehs Consultants primarily focus on workplace safety, compliance, and risk management through consulting services. Environmental Specialists concentrate on environmental impact assessments, regulatory compliance, and sustainability initiatives. Both roles often collaborate but serve different core functions within the industry.
