Air Products has an immediate opening for a skilled Regional Health and Safety Specialist to serve the Southern Region. This hybrid role requires regular work from local site locations and approximately 25-50% overnight travel throughout the Southern Region to assist with operational and safety goals. Candidates can be residence-based in Baton Rouge, LA or Prairieville, LA. This role contributes to building a strong safety culture, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting operational performance at multiple sites.
The South Health and Safety Specialist delivers on-site assistance for worker health and safety programs across the region. Reporting to the South Regional EHS&Q Manager, this position supports facilities throughout the Southern U.S., including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
The South Health and Safety Specialist functions as the regional safety lead, maintaining alignment with corporate health and safety policies and all applicable regulations. This role works with field locations to identify risks, foster continuous improvements, and implement safety strategies that support regional operations and corporate objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop a strong understanding of site operations, production processes, business objectives, and organizational priorities to ensure safety solutions are practical, balanced, and aligned with business needs.
  • Participate in planning high-risk, non-routine work such as confined space entry, excavations, complex energy isolations, crane activities, and similar activities to ensure hazards are fully identified and controlled before and during the work. This role is expected to be onsite when risk level or complexity requires direct safety support.
  • Lead safety training and critical program implementation by conducting classroom training and building capability in the field, ensuring supervisors and teams can apply requirements in practice.
  • Ensure sites understand applicable regulatory and corporate requirements and use audits, assessments, and process checks to identify gaps, prioritize corrective actions, and verify sustained effectiveness.
  • Maintain a strong field presence by actively engaging with operations, understanding upcoming work, addressing concerns, and reinforcing safety expectations, with approximately 50% onsite participation.
  • Promote steady, effective application of Global EHS procedures across sites, ensuring requirements are clear, applicable in the field, and achieving the intended risk reduction.
  • Lead and support incident investigations by focusing on identifying true root causes and system gaps. Ensure findings are turned into actions that are implemented and maintained across sites.
  • Provide support during unannounced regulatory inspections (e.g., OSHA) and participation in post incident or announced regulatory inspections.
  • Provide hands-on injury management support, including early engagement with site leadership, consistent case handling, and return to work coordination.
  • Ensure safety data in the company incident tracking system is accurate and complete. Use this data to encourage meaningful conversations and decisions. Focus on improving access to trends and performance information.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, a technical field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of progressive health and safety experience in industrial gases, chemical manufacturing, refining, energy, or other high-hazard industries
  • Expertise in understanding and interpreting U.S. regulatory policies which include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Demonstrated experience in applying corporate safety policies and ensuring adherence
  • Experience conducting site audits, assessments, mentoring, and incident investigations using root cause methodologies
  • Experience training, auditing, and supporting effective implementation of work permitting systems. Electronic work permitting experience a plus.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate within a matrixed organization
  • Ability to provide multi-site field support
  • Strong presentation, training, communication, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to deliver classroom training to small and larger groups (up to 50)
  • Motivated to work independently while clearly and effectively explaining complex subjects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) preferred
