Job Summary
The EEG Technician I performs a variety of highly technical diagnostic neurophysiology procedures under the direction of a physician and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. This role is responsible for accurate data collection, patient safety, and preparation of preliminary study results.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform EEG and related diagnostic procedures as ordered by a physician
- Prepare and set up equipment and supplies for prescribed tests
- Review patient history and obtain necessary clinical information/documentation
- Educate patients on procedures and obtain appropriate consent
- Continuously monitor and document patient condition during testing
- Report any adverse reactions or acute abnormalities to appropriate staff
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot EEG, EP, and PSG equipment
- Recognize and correct artifacts to ensure high-quality diagnostic data
- Score studies, document findings, and prepare reports for physician review
- Maintain, calibrate, and perform quality control on equipment
- Initiate patient charges as required
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff
- Perform routine clerical and related duties
- Coordinate with staff for patient scheduling and transport
- Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding procedures
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical teams regarding test results
- Minimum six (6) months of experience in a patient care environment
- At least two (2) years of experience as an EEG Technician
- High School Diploma or GED with two (2) years of relevant experience, or
- Associate's Degree, or
- Technical Degree
- Enrollment in or graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required prior to start
- Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T) credential preferred or board eligible per ABRET standards
- Registration is preferred but not required
