Job description

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Administrative & Education Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing Keep Starkville Beautiful's mission by providing administrative support while developing, coordinating, and implementing environmental education and community outreach programs.

This position serves as the primary point of contact for the Sanitation & Environmental Services Department and works closely with schools, community organizations, volunteers, and the Keep Starkville Beautiful Board to promote environmental stewardship throughout Oktibbeha County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Administrative Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, citizens, employees, and City leadership within the Sanitation & Environmental Services Department.
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls, respond to inquiries, take messages, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Provide general administrative support for department operations and Keep Starkville Beautiful programs.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Keep Starkville Beautiful Board and assist with board communications and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Outreach

  • Develop and present educational programs on recycling, litter prevention, waste reduction, sustainability, and other environmental topics.
  • Create educational materials, presentations, handouts, and lesson plans for audiences of all ages.
  • Coordinate and conduct presentations, classroom activities, and environmental education events in local schools.
  • Serve as the liaison between Keep Starkville Beautiful and schools, community organizations, businesses, and local partners.
  • Organize and promote community events, including cleanup campaigns, recycling drives, workshops, and other outreach initiatives.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for educational programs and community events.
  • Supervise volunteers during events and ensure they understand the organization's mission, expectations, and safety procedures.

  • Monitor participation and evaluate the effectiveness of educational and outreach programs.
  • Prepare reports and recommend improvements to enhance future programming

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree in Education, Environmental Science, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi Commercial Driver's License.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, bending, climbing stairs, and lifting light objects. Work requires physical dexterity in the frequent use of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills using fingers, limbs and body in the operation of a computer and other office machines and equipment.
