POSITIONS: Special Education Teacher (s)

(LD, MI, ED, Life Skills, MOMH, SMH and Pre-K)

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education/Building Principal

START DATE: Upon Board Approval


JOB DESCRIPTION:

To create a flexible grade level program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate student to develop skills, attitude and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation, in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish a good relationship with parents, community, and with other staff members.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree

· Valid Indiana State Teacher’s License – Endorsements for Special Education MI or ED school Life Skills, SMH setting

· Perform annual case reviews for each student(IEP’s)

· Maintain communication with parents and general education teachers

· Make program recommendations based on individual student educational needs

· Provide a classroom environment that enables students with disabilities to make educational progress

· Implement functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for individual students

· Flexible, organized, takes initiative, willing to share ideas

· Work respectfully and collaboratively with other team members

· Exemplary behavior management skills

· Will train on crisis prevention intervention, behaviors analyses, and developing behavior support plans

· Technology skills for the development of individual education programs

· Good conflict resolution and people skills

· Experience in Skyward student management

· Must possess written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit, and proofread emails, as well as reading comprehension to respond to those emails.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

2. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities

3. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’

varying needs

4. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment

5. Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development

6. Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures

7. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school

8. Provide guidance and direction to classroom support staff

9. Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary

10. Conduct case conferences (initial and annual) as required

11. Interpret assessment results for parents and, where appropriate, for students and school staff

12. Assist in the development of other components of students’ development, health and social history

13. Serve as a resource and collaborate with outside agencies as appropriate

14. Attend and participate in special education staff meetings

15. Establish positive relationships with student by counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement.

16. Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

17. Experience in Skyward student management.

18. Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties.
