About the Opportunity 
The Toronto Holocaust Museum seeks an Associate Director of Education to oversee the Museum’s Education department functions including school visits, teacher professional development, education resources, and museum educator management.  

The Associate Director of Education leads department efforts to make the Toronto Holocaust Museum the province’s recognized leader in Holocaust education. They will champion best practices in Holocaust education, experimental and innovative thinking, and fresh approaches to engaging school audiences. They will ensure that learning at the THM is grounded in Holocaust scholarship while drawing out the relevance of the Holocaust today and its explicit connections to current antisemitism. They will also ensure that learning at the THM expands understanding of who Jews are, past and present.

We believe that high impact Holocaust education that is relevant to the world we live in today can inspire discussion and behavioural change around contemporary ansitsemitism and all forms of hate. This is a highly attractive opportunity to work in a senior position at a new state-of-the-art institution and the first Holocaust museum in Canada designed for the post-survivor period.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

• 
  Own the development and delivery of all school-based programming, including field trips, workshops, survivor speaker sessions, and special initiatives, through supervision of the museum educator, and coordinator.
• Oversee Operations Coordinator on matters pertaining to school visits and volunteer training for school visits.
• Set strategic direction for school engagement, including programs, resources, and partnerships with school boards and educational stakeholders.
• Develop and implement a teacher engagement strategy across school boards, including professional development (in person and online), curriculum-aligned resources, and respond to Ministry of Education changes, distinguishing THM in the landscape.
• Build, maintain, and expand relationships with school boards, equity leads, and administrators across public, private, Jewish day, and supplemental schools; drive recruitment and retention of school groups.
• Manage and strengthen institutional partnerships (e.g., Azrieli Foundation, Facing History) and identify opportunities for new collaborations.
• Design and execute evaluation frameworks for educational programming; analyze evaluation data to inform improvements and decision-making.
• Deliver off-site and virtual programming, including workshops and teacher training across the GTA for schools, universities, and other groups.
• Oversee policies and response protocols for on-site school-related incidents, liaising with parents, educators, and administrators as needed.
• Collaborate with the Chief Curator and Experience team to develop community outreach strategies, exhibitions, and specialized programming (including tours and survivor engagement).
• Lead recruitment, training, and coordination of speakers and facilitators for educator and volunteer programming.
• Partner with the Marketing Director to promote educational programs, including contributing content for newsletters, the educator portal, website updates, and donor/grant materials.
• Develop and manage the budget for school and teacher activities, including monitoring revenues and expenses.
• Contribute as a senior team member to institutional planning, reporting, grant support, and occasional weekend/evening management coverage.
• Stay current on best practices in museum education and Holocaust education, ensuring programming reflects leading standards and innovation.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

• Master’s degree in History, Education, or Museum Studies along with sound knowledge of Holocaust history, Jewish history, museum teaching and learning, and object interpretation strategies.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of proven leadership experience in a museum or educational setting is required, along with understanding of the role of education in a museum and best practices in the museum education field.
• Experience building positive and professional relationships with a range of stakeholders and constituencies.
• Experience supervising personnel (volunteer and staff), program and budget development, project management and planning skills along with an ability to meet deadlines are necessary. 
• Able to work effectively in a team setting within the department and collaborate across the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Occasional evenings and weekends.

*This is a full-time position. Salary Range: $100,000–$110,000 annually, based on experience.
