Minimum Qualifications:

• Four (4) years of direct work experience in history, museum studies, anthropology, education, or related field, OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one or more of the related fields, OR any combination thereof
• Updated Resume and Cover Letter detailing education and work experience
• Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday

Preferences:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in history, art history, museum studies, anthropology, education, or related field
• Six (6) months of experience working (paid or unpaid) at a museum or similar cultural heritage organization
• Six (6) months of experience working (paid or unpaid) with K-12 students in an educational setting
• Working knowledge of Florida History

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for supporting educational programs offered by the Museum of Florida History and the Florida Division of Historical Resources. A successful applicant will plan and take part in programs aimed at promoting the state’s rich history. Duties include: 

• Develops, executes, and evaluates interpretive and educational public programming, special events, educational outreach, and community outreach for the various audiences of the Museum of Florida History. Responds to public inquiries and assists with scheduling educational and outreach programs. Serves the public through effective public programming and comprehensive visitor services. Staffs the Union Bank Museum when open and for special events as needed. Conducts opening and closing procedures.
• Develops interpretive and educational materials, including lesson plans, special outreach materials, and materials for teachers and students. Reviews resources for accuracy, clarity, and effectiveness.
• Oversees the accurate recording and reporting of statistics relating to citizens served, programming, and volunteer service. Conducts an audience survey program for educational programs. Works with education and visitor databases
• Provides staff support for museum activities and events, serves on committees that further museum goals and objectives. Assists with preparations related to Florida History Day. Serves as an education/interpretation team member on exhibit teams.
• Provides visitor services at the Union Bank Museum, managed by the Museum of Florida History during regular hours (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Friday & Saturday) and special events
• Plans and participates in education and community outreach for various audiences
• Develops interpretive and education materials, including lesson plans and outreach materials for teachers and students.
• Oversees recording of statics related to programming, volunteering, and public engagement
• Provides staff support for events and activities, including Florida History Day and 20th of May
• Performs other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of American/Florida history obtained through coursework or on the job;
• Knowledge of museum terminology and programs;
• Knowledge of strategic planning for museum education program development;
• Knowledge of educational program planning, development and evaluation techniques;
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate education/pedagogical strategies and approaches for use with different age groups;
• Ability to record and report data and statistics related to museum programs and services;
• Ability to communicate effectively, in written and oral presentations;
• Ability to understand and apply pertinent rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
• Ability to use a computer program for word processing, research, preparation of plans, reports and presentations, and database management; Strong organizational skills.
