About GHIA: GHIA's mission is to provide opportunities for visual arts education and to develop visual arts awareness and appreciation throughout the greater Augusta community. Established in 1937, GHIA is the oldest visual arts nonprofit in the Augusta River Region, yet it maintains a fresh roster of art classes and contemporary exhibitions in every season.

Primary Function, Education Coordinator: The Education Coordinator, under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for development, implementation and supervision of all educational programming at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (GHIA). Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements

• Self-motivated, high level of initiative; detail-oriented, dependable; able to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to develop and promote programs for a wide audience
• Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience. Visual art or museum education experience preferred

Responsibilities:

Administration

• Recruit highly qualified art instructors to teach classes in a wide variety of disciplines and mediums
• Maintain communication with art faculty, specifically in regard to their classes (course descriptions, attendance, material lists, supplies, setting price, etc.)
• Maintain communication with students, regarding class registration, course cancellations, refunds, schedule changes or other items affecting their class experience.
• Manage scheduling of administrative assistants for evening & weekend classes
• Assists with writing and editing course descriptions for quarterly course catalogue and acquiring appropriate and current photos for advertising classes.
• Assist in updates and maintenance of class registration sites, CourseStorm and GHIA.org website.
• Maintain detailed tracking records on all education and outreach activities and programs both on- and off-site & prepare a brief report to give at monthly board meeting.
• Write & send course evaluations periodically to students, providing feedback to faculty based on responses.

Studio Classes

• Develop enriching workshops and classes that meet the current needs of the community in alignment with GHIA’s mission.
• Maintain clean & productive studio spaces for classes in the Walker-Mackenzie Art Education Studio on the GHIA Campus.
• Maintain safety standards of the art education studios and ceramics lab, keeping current with guidelines for materials & equipment involved in processes used in studio classes.
• Provide all needed supplies to instructors & students before the beginning of each class.
• Provide the Executive Director with lists of needed supplies and equipment to order for studio classes.
• Maintain an organized inventory of art supplies.

Marketing & Outreach

• Assists with promotional efforts of art classes & programs through social media posts (Facebook & Instagram), media interviews, and other promotional opportunities.
• Assist with development and implementation of outreach programs for the community that align with GHIA’s mission, such as collaborative projects with local schools, arts organizations, and other community organizations.
• Develop hands-on activities for the Family Fun Day during the GHIA Spring Artists’ Market, and secure instructors to demonstrate the skills to be learned in their classes to attendees.

Exhibitions

• Coordinate the annual Agnes Markwalter Youth Art Competition and Exhibition, including soliciting participants, recruiting a juror, communicating with teachers, and installing the exhibition. 
• Coordinate the Student Pottery Sale, recruiting current GHIA students to participate, obtaining inventory lists, tracking sales and using the GHIA POS (Square) to take payments.

Other – As Needed

• Assist at GHIA events and programs (some evening hours required)
• Identify sources for potential educational funding.
• Use GHIA POS (Square) to process payments for merchandise purchased by event attendees and students.
