Job description

Job Title: Utah EDS&SE Field Representative
FLSA Status: Part Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Assistant Director of Emergency Disaster Services & Service Extension
Schedule: 8:30AM - 5:00PM, 3 Days
Supervises: N/A
Rate of Pay: $28.75/ hour
Closing Date: 5/28/2026
Benefits: Standard; Part-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:
  • Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)
  • Vacation benefit - 10 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0385 hours for each hour worked, excluding overtime (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment; vacation accrual is pro-rated for part time hours.)
  • Pension Plan (after one year of continuous service) with at least 21 hours worked per week.

Function
The 'EDS & SE Field Representative - Utah' (Part-Time) supports The Salvation Army's Service Extension presence across Utah and southwestern Wyoming (Lincoln, Uinta, and Sweetwater counties), serving as the primary relationship contact for SE unit volunteers, committees, and local partners in that territory. The position also supports the SE center in Provo, Utah.
EDS work in Utah is led by the EDS & SE Assistant Director, who serves as Utah's EDS lead and manages VOAD relationships and state-level EDS coordination. This Field Representative supports EDS training and preparedness efforts at the field level in Utah under the direction of the Assistant Director.
This is a part-time position with a defined geographic scope. The role is primarily field-based, requiring regular travel to SE units and communities across Utah and southwestern Wyoming.
Duties and Responsibilities
Service Extension
  • Manage and support SE units across Utah and Lincoln, Uinta, and Sweetwater counties in Wyoming, serving as the primary relationship contact for unit volunteers and committee members.
  • Support the SE Center in Provo, Utah, as assigned.
  • Visit assigned SE units regularly; provide guidance, programmatic support, and encouragement to unit leadership.
  • Identify and work to develop new SE units in communities where there is a need or desire for a TSA presence.
  • Analyze communities, volunteers, and programs; recommend changes and develop strategies.
  • Advise SE Unit Committees on official Salvation Army policy and ensure their compliance.
  • Assist SE units in completing required statistical and financial reports.
  • Assist SE unit leadership with volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts.
  • Help SE units recruit campers for Service Extension Camp and assist with transportation arrangements.
  • Assist communities in times of disaster by assessing needs, liaising with local media and agencies, and providing on-scene support and guidance.
  • Coordinate the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign within assigned SE unit areas.
  • Work with the Divisional Grant Writer to ensure SE units in the territory maintain grant compliance.
  • Conduct an annual inventory of SE equipment and report to the EDS & SE Administrative Coordinator.

Emergency Disaster Services - Support Role
  • Support EDS preparedness and training activities in Utah under the direction of the EDS & SE Assistant Director (Utah EDS lead).
  • Participate in EDS training exercises and help build field-level EDS awareness and capacity among SE units and local partners.
  • Support EDS response and recovery efforts in Utah and the assigned Wyoming territory as called upon.

General Responsibilities
  • Provide a monthly activity report to the EDS & SE Director and Assistant Director.
  • Submit a monthly travel plan; account for all travel expenditures and submit timely expense reports.
  • Work collaboratively with community organizations, Corps Officers, and divisional departments.

All Staff Responsibilities - Regardless of primary role, all EDS & SE team members share the following responsibilities:
  • EDS Response Support: All staff may be called upon to support EDS response and recovery efforts within the Intermountain Division, including serving in various incident command roles as assigned.
  • Seasonal Efforts: All staff contribute to divisional seasonal initiatives, including the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign, summer camp programming, and other time-sensitive efforts as needed.
  • Field and DHQ Liaison: All staff serve as a bridge between the field and Divisional Headquarters, helping units, centers, and Corps navigate divisional resources, communications, and support.
  • Professional Representation: All staff represent The Salvation Army with professionalism in community settings, partner relationships, and external engagements.

Education/Experience, Skills, Qualities, Requirements
Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred in Emergency Management, Nonprofit Management, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Experience in community services, volunteer management, or a nonprofit setting preferred.
  • General knowledge of The Salvation Army preferred.

Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience working with volunteers and in community relationship-building.
  • Working knowledge of database applications; ability to learn new software with basic training.

Qualities
  • Comfortable working independently in a geographically distributed territory.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and genuine interest in community ministry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across Utah and southwestern Wyoming.
  • Supportive of The Salvation Army's mission.

Requirements
  • Driving
    • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver's license
    • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies
  • Background Check
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies
  • Physical
    • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information
