Edr Engineer information

What is the difference between Edr Engineer vs Edr Technician?

AspectEdr EngineerEdr Technician
CredentialsBachelor's degree in electrical, electronics, or related engineering fields; certifications like Cisco or CompTIA are commonTechnical diploma or associate degree; relevant certifications may include Cisco or CompTIA
Work EnvironmentDesign, develop, and troubleshoot EDR systems; often involved in project planning and system integrationInstall, maintain, and repair EDR hardware and software; hands-on technical support
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by network security firms, telecom companies, and large enterprises for security and data recoveryEmployed in similar settings for operational support and system maintenance

In summary, Edr Engineers focus on designing and developing EDR systems, requiring higher-level engineering skills and credentials. Edr Technicians handle installation and maintenance, with more hands-on technical tasks. Both roles are essential in the cybersecurity and data recovery industry, but they differ in responsibilities and required qualifications.

What are some common challenges EDR engineers face when integrating endpoint detection and response solutions across diverse IT environments?

EDR Engineers often encounter challenges when deploying and managing endpoint detection and response solutions in organizations with a mix of legacy systems, various operating systems, and remote or hybrid workforces. Compatibility issues, ensuring consistent policy enforcement, and maintaining real-time visibility across all endpoints can be complex tasks. Collaboration with IT, security teams, and end-users is essential to troubleshoot deployment issues, minimize false positives, and optimize system performance. Staying up-to-date with evolving threats and regularly tuning the EDR solution are also key aspects of the role.

What is an EDR engineer?

EDR Engineers are cybersecurity professionals who specialize in implementing, managing, and optimizing Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions for organizations. Their main responsibilities include monitoring endpoints for suspicious activities, investigating security incidents, and responding to threats in real-time. EDR Engineers work closely with security teams to ensure robust protection against malware, ransomware, and other cyber threats by leveraging advanced detection and automated response tools. They also contribute to improving security policies and practices based on threat intelligence gathered from endpoints.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDR engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDR Engineer, you need a solid background in cybersecurity, threat detection, incident response, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools such as CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, or Carbon Black, along with certifications like CEH or CISSP, is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help EDR Engineers collaborate across teams and respond swiftly to threats. These skills and qualifications are essential to proactively identify, investigate, and mitigate security incidents, ensuring the organization's digital assets remain protected.

Senior Engineer – Cybersecurity Consultant

About American Technology Services LLC

American Technology Services (ATS) started in 1994 with the same mission as today, providing high-quality managed IT services, network support, and cybersecurity services to firms where quality matters most – the organizations that rely heavily on information technology and high levels of services. Over the years, ATS has built client trust that has lasted for years and years. As time goes forward, our consultative approach resonates well, and our “corporate knowledge” about our clients’ IT operations helps our clients perform at a higher level.

About the role

  • We are seeking a highly experienced and technically adept Senior Engineer to join our Managed IT and Security delivery teams in Atlanta, GA. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading complex projects, mentoring junior engineers, and driving the strategic development of tools, platforms, and capabilities essential to our Managed Service Provider (MSP) and Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) operations. This role requires a deep technical expertise, proven leadership abilities, and a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement in IT and cybersecurity.

What you'll do

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced tools and platforms that enhance the delivery of Managed IT and Security services. Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Cybersecurity Innovation: Spearhead the development of cutting-edge cybersecurity capabilities, including advanced threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management solutions. Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to keep the organization at the forefront of industry best practices.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: Lead the architecture, deployment, and management of complex multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), ensuring high availability, security, and scalability to meet diverse client needs.
  • Kubernetes and Containerization Leadership: Oversee the development and optimization of Kubernetes and other containerization platforms, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure and security operations.
  • Open-Source and Commercial Technology Integration: Lead efforts to evaluate, integrate, and optimize both open-source and commercial technology platforms, focusing on enhancing performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Advanced Automation and Scripting: Develop and implement advanced automation scripts and tools to streamline IT and security operations, including sophisticated deployment pipelines, configuration management, and real-time monitoring systems.
  • Incident Response Leadership: Provide expert-level guidance during cyber incident response activities, leading the development and deployment of tools and processes that facilitate rapid detection, analysis, and remediation.
  • Mentorship and Development: Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Lead technical training sessions and share knowledge on best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Documentation and Standards: Ensure comprehensive documentation of all tools, platforms, and processes. Establish and maintain engineering standards and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and lead initiatives to continuously improve IT and security service delivery, driving innovation in processes, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Additional requirements may exist if offer of employment is extended

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in IT engineering, security operations, or a related technical role, with a proven track record of success in managed services environments (MSP, MSSP).

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive expertise in networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and advanced cybersecurity principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and significant experience with Kubernetes and other container orchestration platforms.
  • Expert-level scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation and tool development.
  • Deep experience with both open-source and commercial IT/security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR, monitoring platforms).
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead the resolution of complex technical challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document and convey complex technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership abilities, with experience leading technical teams, managing large-scale projects, and driving organizational change.
  • Innovation: A strong focus on innovation, with a proven ability to identify and implement new technologies and methodologies that enhance service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Advanced certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or other specialized certifications are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in leading the development and integration of advanced tools and capabilities for managed services, cybersecurity operations, or complex cloud environments.
