What is an EDM developer?

An EDM Developer is a software professional who specializes in developing, implementing, and maintaining Enterprise Data Management (EDM) systems. These systems help organizations manage, store, and analyze large volumes of data efficiently and securely. EDM Developers work with various data integration tools, databases, and programming languages to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the organization. They often collaborate with data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to align data solutions with business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDM developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDM Developer, you need expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and a solid understanding of enterprise data management concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with EDM platforms (like Informatica or IBM InfoSphere), SQL, and data integration tools, as well as relevant certifications, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills ensure accurate and efficient data management, supporting business intelligence and decision-making within the organization.

What is the difference between Edm Developer vs Data Warehouse Developer?

AspectEdm DeveloperData Warehouse Developer
CredentialsSQL, XML, JSON, ETL toolsSQL, ETL tools, data modeling certifications
Work EnvironmentData integration, metadata management, enterprise data systemsData storage, schema design, reporting systems
Industry UsageBusiness intelligence, data integration projectsData warehousing, analytics, reporting
Common Search/ComparisonOften compared for data management rolesRelated but focuses more on data storage architecture

Edm Developers primarily focus on managing metadata and data integration within enterprise systems, while Data Warehouse Developers design and build data storage solutions for analytics. Both roles require SQL and ETL skills, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges EDM developers face when integrating enterprise data across multiple systems?

EDM Developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring data consistency and quality when integrating information from various, sometimes incompatible, source systems. They must address issues like data duplication, differing data formats, and latency in data synchronization. Collaboration with business analysts, database administrators, and other IT teams is crucial to define data governance rules and resolve conflicts quickly. Staying up-to-date with evolving data integration tools and best practices is also key to overcoming these challenges and delivering reliable data solutions.

Job description

At Precision Aerospace, a Precinmac Company, we build mission‑critical precision components for aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and automation customers. Our Texas-based manufacturing locations rely on best-in-class processes, relentless quality, and on-time delivery. We are hiring a hands-on maintenance leader to keep our AS9100-certified operations running flawlessly.

A day in this role

You begin with a quick gemba walk across the shop: 5-axis mills hum, EDM cells spark, turning centers queue their next jobs, and CMMs verify tolerances. In the CMMS, you review overnight PM completions and PdM alerts—vibration on a spindle trending up, a thermal signature on a servo amplifier worth watching, oil analysis indicating a change. A technician flags a lathe fault; you triage, assign, and set a target MTTR. By mid-morning, you’re on a call with an OEM about a scheduled spindle replacement and a control upgrade. After lunch, you host a toolbox talk on LOTO/TAGOUT, then sit down with Quality to prep for an AS9100 Rev D audit—verifying calibration certificates, SOP revisions, and NIST traceability for gauges and CMMs. You wrap the day aligning spare parts strategy to OEE insights and scoping a capital project to modernize an aging 4-axis cell.

What you’ll lead
  • Own reliability and maintenance for 130+ assets: EDM (wire and sinker), turning/lathe centers, 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers, CMM inspection equipment, and assembly support systems.
  • Build and evolve a robust Preventive Maintenance program across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and coolant subsystems for all production equipment.
  • Advance Predictive Maintenance—vibration analysis, thermal imaging, oil analysis, and spindle condition monitoring—to extend machine life and avoid unplanned downtime.
  • Respond rapidly to breakdowns; set and track MTTR and MTBF targets that protect production schedules and on-time delivery.
  • Oversee facilities infrastructure: HVAC, compressed air, electrical distribution, coolant/filtration systems, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
  • Coordinate OEM and field service support for machine rebuilds, spindle swaps, control retrofits, and specialized repairs.
Integrated quality and compliance
  • Maintain full alignment with AS9100 Rev D for maintenance, calibration, and process control.
  • Run the calibration program for CMMs, gauges, torque tools, and measuring instruments with Quality; ensure NIST traceability.
  • Create and maintain maintenance work instructions, SOPs, and asset records to support internal/external audits.
  • Drive investigations for equipment-related NCRs/CARs; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Keep complete histories, calibration certificates, and maintenance documentation in the CMMS/ERP for audit-ready traceability.
Safety and regulatory
  • Ensure OSHA, EPA, and applicable state/local compliance in hazardous waste handling, chemical safety, and environmental controls.
  • Participate in EHS inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations; see corrective actions through to closure.
  • Manage contractor safety compliance for all on-site maintenance and construction activities.
Planning, budget, and improvement
  • Own the annual maintenance budget—labor, spares, tooling, contractor services—and recommend capital for reliability upgrades.
  • Design a critical spares strategy that balances cost with uptime risk.
  • Leverage CMMS data and OEE to drive continuous improvement and eliminate chronic failure modes.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on capability studies, process changes, and new equipment qualification/installation.
  • Support facilities planning for new equipment, line reconfigurations, and expansion projects.
Team leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians; assign work orders, provide technical direction, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Grow team capabilities in CNC controls (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain), PLC troubleshooting, and machine tool systems.
  • Establish on-call and emergency coverage across shifts; reinforce a safety-first culture with rigorous PPE and LOTO/TAGOUT compliance.
Required qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Technology or related; or AS plus 8+ years of equivalent maintenance management experience in manufacturing.
  • 7+ years in precision manufacturing maintenance with 3+ years leading a team.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machine tools: turning centers, 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers, EDM (wire and/or sinker), and CMMs.
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain; able to troubleshoot servo drives, spindles, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience within AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar QMS environments.
  • Proficient with CMMS for work orders, PM scheduling, and asset histories.
  • Strong foundations in electrical systems, PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical power transmission.
  • Proven budgeting, spare parts, and contractor management skills.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA, machine safeguarding, and industrial safety best practices.
Preferred
  • Aerospace/defense/space manufacturing experience with AS9100 Rev D internal audits.
  • In-depth familiarity with 5-axis platforms and their unique maintenance needs.
  • CMM maintenance/qualification/calibration (Zeiss, Hexagon, Brown & Sharpe, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of SPC, OEE, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • CMRP, CRL, or equivalent certifications.
  • ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, Epicor or similar) integrated with maintenance.
  • ITAR awareness and work in controlled defense environments.
