Evening Anchor/Reporter
About the Role:
WXXV-TV, the FOX/NBC/CW affiliate serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is looking for a dynamic and driven Evening Anchor/Reporter to join our news team. This is a great opportunity for a passionate storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and wants to connect with the local community.
In this role, you will be responsible for anchoring some of our evening newscasts, reporting on impactful local stories, and delivering compelling content across multiple platforms. We're looking for someone who is confident on the desk, effective in the field, and skilled at engaging audiences on digital and social media. The ideal candidate will be someone willing to be a newsroom leader on the evening shift and willing to help mentor producers and reporters.
Responsibilities:
  • Anchor assigned newscasts with professionalism, credibility, and energy
  • Enterprise, shoot, write, and edit compelling news stories for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Assist with producing newscasts on a fill-in basis occasionally.
  • Deliver live reports from the field with accuracy and clarity
  • Develop and maintain sources to break exclusive stories that matter to our viewers
  • Engage with audiences on social media and contribute to digital coverage
  • Work closely with producers and directors to execute high-quality newscasts
  • Represent WXXV at community events and station initiatives
  • Adhere to ethical journalism standards and best practices
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of on-air experience preferred (will consider strong entry-level candidates)
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and live reporting skills. Producing skills are also a plus.
  • Ability to shoot and edit video (experience with Edius or similar software is a plus)
  • Comfortable with social media platforms and digital news strategies
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a passion for local news
