Job Summary
The University of North Georgia Press is currently accepting applications for an editorial assistant. The Editorial Assistant supports the editorial, marketing, communications, and day-to-day operations of the University of North Georgia Press under the direction of the Marketing and Content Manager. This position requires in-office hours at the Press's office on the Dahlonega campus.
Responsibilities
  • Marketing activities including social media post creation and account maintenance, Edelweiss digital catalog maintenance, metadata creation and maintenance, and blog website updates and maintenance, and other marketing assignments as assigned by the Marketing and Content Manager.
  • Editorial review support including assisting with the evaluation of book proposals and author queries, preparing written observations and recommendations, maintaining submission records, and supporting the editorial acquisitions process as assigned by the Marketing and Content Manager and Director.
  • Internal and external communications management including monitoring and answering emails for the UNG Press general email account, answering phones, fulfilling OER instructor materials requests, and related communications assignments.
  • Editing and research assignments as assigned by the Marketing and Content Manager and Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of editing fundamentals (grammar, style, clarity) and the editorial process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Proficient with major social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook)
  • Strong written and professional communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Basic research skills
  • Customer service and professional phone/email etiquette
  • Ability to learn new digital tools and publishing platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in the minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • High school diploma/GED
  • No prior experience is required, though coursework or some experience in English, editing, publishing, communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
