Job description

Digital Editor – Atlanta Magazine

Atlanta magazine, the city's leading media publishing brand for 65 years, is looking for a full-time digital editor to join its award-winning editorial team. This editor is responsible for developing and executing the overall growth strategy for the magazine's digital presence, including multiple web platforms and social media channels. This role involves overseeing (and occasionally writing) original digital content for the website, from initial story concepts to final publication, ensuring both stories and art are consistent with the brand's voice and quality standards. It also entails strategically releasing print content on the website and disseminating all stories creatively on social channels and through the magazine's newsletters. The editor will work closely with members of the print team and report to the Editor in Chief.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating and executing a quantifiable growth strategy for atlantamagazine.com's digital editorial products, newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Strategically uploading all print content in a timely manner from Atlanta magazine, Georgia Design, and Atlanta Power 100 to our WordPress-based CMS, adapting headlines for SEO optimization
  • Assigning, editing, and posting digital-only stories on the site on a daily basis—including soliciting and editing accompanying artwork
  • Recruiting freelancers with a diverse range of specialties; managing a freelance budget
  • Occasionally writing original articles for the website and print
  • Attending events regularly for digital and social coverage
  • Attending editorial meetings and collaborating with the editorial team
  • Working with the sales and marketing teams on ideation of digital sales initiatives
  • Creating and update landing pages and other treatments for special cover features and other projects, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design custom, eye-catching pages
  • Maintaining and expanding the magazine's social media accounts
  • Strategizing and executing growth strategies for the magazine's editorial newsletters; organizing content for said newsletters
  • Researching and providing analytics and data to both editorial and sales teams in a simple, easy-to-understand format
  • Responding to occasional breaking news stories

Who We're Looking For:

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital editing and social media, with a proven track record of growth
  • Motivated self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Someone with fresh ideas to expand our digital presence and the determination to carry them out
  • A person who likes to be out and about—who wants to represent the magazine at key events and post about these events to our social channels
  • A proactive communicator who can be relied upon to adhere to strict deadlines
