Job description


Position Summary:
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is a full-time role dedicated to supporting the education and professional development of staff within the Emergency Department (ED). This role utilizes expert practice judgment to enhance the competence and growth of ED staff and learners. The practitioner partners closely with ED leadership to deliver onboarding, competency management, education, and role development initiatives that promote clinical excellence, safety, and adherence to evidence-based practices. This position plays a vital role in fostering a culture of continuous learning aligned with the IU Health Way and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new ED staff, ensuring a smooth transition into the department.
  • Manage competency assessments and ongoing professional development for ED staff.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver targeted educational programs specific to emergency care.
  • Support role development initiatives within the ED through education and training activities.
  • Collaborate with ED leadership and other stakeholders to meet departmental and system-wide educational objectives.
  • Promote a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes in emergency care.

Position: Full-Time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday - Friday (No weekends, holidays, or call requirements)

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Two years experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs.
  • Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
  • Emergency Department experience strongly preferred.
