Job description

Managing Director, AI Biohub

Department: Studio

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Cambridge

Description

About C10 Labs

C10 Labs is an AI-native venture studio and early-stage investment firm based in Kendall Square, Cambridge. We partner with exceptional founders to build category-defining AI companies across healthcare, life sciences, energy, industrial AI, and enterprise software.

As we launch our second fund, we are expanding our partnership with LabCentral through the AI Bio platform, a venture creation and investment platform focused on the convergence of artificial intelligence, biology, therapeutics, and healthcare.

We are seeking a Managing Director to lead this effort.

This is a senior operating and investment role responsible for building one of the country’s leading AI Bio venture platforms. Working alongside C10’s CEO and AI Bio Hub partners, you will identify exceptional founders, shape investment opportunities, build strategic partnerships across the Cambridge ecosystem, and help create the next generation of AI-driven life science companies.

The Role

The Managing Director will lead C10’s AI Bio platform across venture creation, investing, and ecosystem development.

This role combines founder recruitment, investment sourcing, venture creation, ecosystem building, and platform leadership. Success requires exceptional judgment, strong execution, and the ability to build trusted relationships across academia, healthcare, industry, and venture capital.

Responsibilities

Venture Platform Leadership

  • Lead C10’s AI Bio venture platform in partnership with LabCentral leadership, including our accelerator, founder community, and venture-building programs.
  • Recruit exceptional founders and early-stage companies.
  • Design and operate accelerator and venture creation programs.
  • Build and manage networks of mentors, entrepreneurs, and operating partners.
  • Lead investor engagement and founder programming.
  • Co-lead an annual Demo Day with LabCentral.
  • Deliver an outstanding founder experience from recruitment through fundraising.

Investment

  • Build a differentiated pipeline of AI Bio investment opportunities.
  • Source proprietary founders and companies.
  • Evaluate technical, scientific, market, and commercial potential, including alignment with LabCentral.
  • Lead early-stage diligence and market assessment.
  • Prepare investment recommendations for the CIO and Investment Committee.
  • Support portfolio companies through company building and follow-on financing.

Ecosystem Development

  • Establish C10 as a leading AI Bio venture platform in Cambridge.
  • Build strategic relationships with MIT, Harvard, Mass General Brigham, the Broad Institute, LabCentral, leading hospitals, corporate partners, and investors.
  • Recruit scientific founders, advisors, clinicians, entrepreneurs-in-residence, and industry experts.
  • Develop partnerships that expand proprietary deal flow and venture creation opportunities.

AI Bio Hub

  • Lead the growth of the AI Bio Hub as C10’s flagship platform for AI-enabled scientific entrepreneurship.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and institutional collaborations.
  • Secure sponsored, philanthropic, and non-dilutive funding.
  • Launch initiatives that strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem.
  • Measure and communicate the platform’s impact.

Venture Creation

  • Partner with the venture studio to build new AI Bio companies from inception.
  • Evaluate internally generated venture concepts.
  • Validate technologies and market opportunities.
  • Recruit founding CEOs and technical founders.
  • Support company formation, product-market fit, customer discovery, and institutional fundraising.
Qualifications

You will bring:

  • At least seven years of experience in venture capital, venture studios, startup leadership, or entrepreneurial ecosystem development.
  • Experience evaluating and supporting early-stage technology companies. Founder experience is highly valued.
  • A strong understanding of AI and meaningful exposure to biotechnology, therapeutics, computational biology, synthetic biology, or healthcare.
  • An advanced degree, such as an MS, PhD, or MD, in computer science, engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • An established network within the Boston innovation ecosystem, or the ability to build one quickly.
  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and relationship-building ability.
  • High ownership, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Exceptional candidates who do not meet every qualification are encouraged to apply.

Success in the Role

Performance will be measured by:

  • The quality of founders recruited.
  • Best-in-class AI Bio Hub programming and delivery.
  • The strength of the proprietary investment pipeline.
  • Portfolio company progress and follow-on financing.
  • Strategic partnerships established across the ecosystem.
  • The growth and long-term impact of the AI Bio Hub.
  • New venture creation.
Why C10 Labs?

Few roles offer the opportunity to build companies before they exist.

At C10, you will work alongside entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, and industry leaders to identify breakthrough technologies, recruit exceptional founders, and transform scientific innovation into venture-backed companies.

If you are equally energized by venture investing, company creation, and building one of the world’s premier AI Bio ecosystems, we would love to hear from you
