What does an economics instructor do?

An economics instructor is a member of the faculty at a high school or college/university who teaches general economic and financial theories in a business-related curriculum. Instructors may teach an economics class in-person or online but have similar duties in both roles. You teach or guide students through readings and lectures, prepare assignments, grade student work, and act as a researcher or member of a faculty team outside of the classroom. An instructor may also need to monitor and evaluate how students in the class are performing to intervene and help students to achieve greater success throughout the semester.

What does an economics instructor do?

An Economics Instructor teaches students about economic principles, theories, and their real-world applications. They develop lesson plans, deliver lectures, facilitate classroom discussions, and assess student performance through exams and assignments. Additionally, they may engage in curriculum development, provide academic advising, and stay updated with current economic trends to ensure relevant instruction. Economics Instructors can teach at high schools, colleges, or universities, and often participate in departmental meetings and professional development.

How do economics instructors balance teaching responsibilities with staying updated on current economic trends and research?

Economics Instructors often balance their teaching duties with ongoing professional development by integrating current events and recent research into their courses. This can involve attending academic conferences, subscribing to economic journals, and participating in faculty seminars. Many instructors also collaborate with colleagues to develop updated curricula and share insights on new developments in the field. Staying engaged with the latest trends not only enriches classroom discussions but also ensures that students receive relevant and practical knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an economics instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Economics Instructor, you need a strong background in economics, teaching experience, and at least a master's degree in economics or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), data analysis software like Stata or Excel, and relevant teaching certifications is often required.
