Chmura Economics & Analytics (Chmura) is a leading economic advisory and technology development firm specializing in "big data" analytics. We have an exciting opportunity for an Economics Intern to support our Economic Consulting team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our amazing team of economists and data scientists, contributing to ongoing consulting projects and developing our state-of-the-art software and data products. This is a hybrid position, with four days a week working in our charming office in Downtown Richmond (Shockoe Slip).

As trusted economic advisors, we help our clients mitigate risk and prepare for growth by answering complicated questions, quickly and effectively. By integrating historical, current, and predictive market reports, we cut through confusing or anecdotal information, unreliable data sources, and opinions to increase our clients' understanding from a macro to a micro level. We take pride in using our creativity to help our clients communicate complex economic data sets to others by delivering highly visual and easy-to-use presentations and reports.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the Economists in their basic and applied research which includes collecting, organizing and evaluating data related to economic issues for input in macro/regional models.
  • Assist economists with their research and analysis of local and regional economic issues and events and researching topics related to their work
  • Collaborate with manager to review project plans; develop an understanding of project assignment including goals, tasks, deadlines and key stakeholders. Communicate updates and project developments as needed.
  • Research, collect, and analyze data for use in project planning and developing project materials and documents.
  • Apply economic principles, practices, and methodologies to assigned projects; develop project-related materials using economic theories and applications
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Applicants must be a current or rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in economics, business, or related field, with completed course work on economic theories and statistics/quantitative methods.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,) sufficient to analyze data and create and format spreadsheets, documents, and presentations.
  • Prior research experience in economics strongly preferred; proficient at conducting internet research for data, articles, and studies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of one of the econometrics and/or statistics packages preferred, such as Stata, SAS, MATLAB, R, or Python.
  • Ability to coordinate work, maintain positive work relationships, and interact with a team.
